greko Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Hi again I seem to have many problems suddenly! I was trying to connect to wifi on my Kindle using a Cosmote (as I am presently in Greece) Internet On The Go pocket Wifi. All was fine until I stupidly clicked on 'settings' in the Kindle menu and had a look at the Wifi connection when it didn't work one day. In settings, the wifi had been set to 'ignore' or some similar word, which I assume meant automatic connection when on which is how it was previously working. But it now won't give me that choice back and only shows 'connect'. I cannot connect it seems without a password now I have lost the 'ignore' choice. The shop where I bought the router says they know of no password only the wifi key - that doesn't work btw. With me so far? The guy at Amazon chat wrote to go to: 'network & sharing centre' and click on properties on something where I would be able to unhide the wifi password and so connect the Kindle to using the password. Then I lost the chat connection before I could write down their instructions! As they didn't seem that sure, I thought I'd rather ask you guys instead. I think my wifi is called Local Area Network Connection 2 as that came up when I switched the wifi on (small black box, big as a small mobile) Tried to look at all sorts under that heading but can't see anything that allows me to mess with passwords! Haven't touched anything as dare not in case I stop it altogether. Hope someone can help - it's not so much a Kindle questions as a wifi change of password question in network sharing so I hope someone can... cheers all greko Quote
Plastic Nev Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Hi Greko, considering this is purely a password issue, we cannot advise or help. Have a look at rule 5 here :- http://extremetechsupport.com/threads/11463-New-to-Free-PC-Help-Forum-Rules#.VkJMAb-9upB It is a two fold issue, we may well trust you, however any advise given to get round password issues could also be read and used by any criminal who neads it to get into stolen equipment. Hope you understand. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. If Free PC Help has helped you then please consider a donation. RandyL Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 It may be asking for the Security Key such as the WPA2 security key. If the router is setup with security, and it should be, then you need to enter the key in order to establish a connection between a device and the router. If you have a Windows 7 computer already connected to this router then you can view the key on your computer. Open Network and Sharing Center in the Control Panel or by clicking on your network icon in the notification area of your taskbar. Next on the left side click Manage wireless networks. You should see your Network. Right click on it and select properties. Click on the Security tab. If you see that there is a Network security key tic the box Show characters.
