Slow and sometimes no response to mouse

The title says it all really. I have 'restored' to a previous 'OK' registry but it seems to be persisting. There sometimes seems to be something occupying the processor and it ignores clicking of the mouse on a button.

Ok nothing out of the ordinary there.....

I was just enjoying a game of solitaire (still can't beat that programmer) and noticed it is getting worse. Could it be that the mouse left key has poor contacts? Sometimes it wont move a card but sending them up to their suit with the right hand key works fine. Perhaps I could change them over, I believe it has that facility somewhere. That might prove the fault but I'd still need a new one.

Hi Jim, to change button function on your mouse, open control panel and look for "Mouse", that will give you the properties box and you can swap which button does what in there. (Being left handed I always swap it)

Let us know if it works or not, if still a problem after changing the buttons we may be looking at a malware problem.

Hi Nev. The mouse I use is 'no microsoft mouse detected'. So that stymies that one. I'd suggest using SWMBOs but it's the wireless type along with the keyboard. I did look for one online but they want so much for posting that I'll get one from a shop next time I'm passing. One company wanted something in excess of £19.00! Rediculous. Sitting writing this has made me think - our local supermarket has been branching in the PC direction since our only business centre closed a while back. Perhaps I'll have a look there in a minute.

I have now looked in the local supermarket where I thought I saw them but not so. If they ever did they don't stock them now. I will ring around tomorrow and see how far I must travel to get one.

 

Thanks for that other suggestion DSTM, I did not see your posting until i came back from the shop and posted mine. Yes it may well be dirty contacts so I can strip it down late tonight or first thing in the morning.

I prefer the 'Mini' type, they're meant for laptops but i find them more comfortable:

Are you sure it's not just the mouse needing a new battery?Jim.

I use all wireless mice and the batteries do fail.

Try the wireless sender in a different port as it only needs USB2

I have been on oven cleaning duty this morning so opted for a new mouse this afternoon. I got one in the only high street shop that does anything like computers. A game (or two) of solitare proved the problem was the mouse.

Thanks for the help and suggestions, I can safely take the old one apart to see if it was gunk on the contacts.

Considering most modern mice use sealed microswitches, you won't be able to get at the contacts themselves, however you might find gunk between the mouse button and the switch. Otherwise it will most likely be the flat blade spring inside the microswitch has cracked or even broken altogether. I have changed dozens of them where slightly larger versions were fitted to machines. Broken blade or leaf spring inside them is quite common once you wreck the casing to look.

I had the same problem. Then I found that the problem was with the USB cable. That port was Loose. Just take a look on your one.
