bj43cj47 Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 (edited) Hi, Firstly thanks again for your help in sorting out my last query. Now another one to chew over. I used to be able to enter various symbols in text by holding down ALT & entering a number eg, ALT 0189 gave 1/2 or ALT 0128 gave the euro monetary sign etc. I've just found the info I ran off some time ago that says "If in Microsoft word, click on the Insert menu & then symbol, or special characters. I can then copy & paste the symbol selected, eg,½ but it's a long way round rather than the ALT way. I can't remember if it was on this laptop or an earlier PC. Any help, as usual, appreciated. KenB Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Hi Does this help at all ? click here Also here - click here I have just tried the last one ... Using the keypad to the right of the keyboard ( not the numbers across the top ) Left Alt + 171 = 1/2 ( doesn't work typing here but does with Office document ) Also Right ALT + 4 = € Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! bj43cj47 Posted December 20, 2015 Author Posted December 20, 2015 Hi Ken, On your second link, Left Alt + 171 = 1/2 comes up okay, Right ALT + 4 = € doesn't work either on left or right ALT key. On your first link, it's hit & miss, some I get, some I don't? Strangely, ignoring the £ sign on the keypad, the 2nd link throws up the euro sign when right ALT & $ are selected, yet it's indicating that the £ sign appears. Confusing innit? Hmmm! also confusing why it's posted twice. Quote
KenB Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Hi, Yes - I found it a bit hit and miss too :( Regarding the double post - I have removed the other one. Right ALT + 4 = € doesn't work either How did you get the € sign ? Right Alt + 4 was working for me .....now it just rotates my screen image 90 deg !! Have you tried with NUM LOCK on / off ? As you say ......confusing ! Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
bj43cj47 Posted December 21, 2015 Author Posted December 21, 2015 Hi, How did you get the € sign ? Right Alt + 4 was working for me .....now it just rotates my screen image 90 deg !! Hi, Screen rotation! I haven't found that one yet. :rolleyes:Right or left ALT + 4 gets me € on your first link, with or without NUM LOCK on, your 2nd link says ALT (either) + 1028 gets you the € symbol, but I can't get that one up? KenB Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Hi, I have just tried this link - click here - and it worked for everything I tried. Example - ÷ ¬ ½ © § € À Use the numeric display on the right side of the keyboard.
