decemberboy Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Hi everyone, I recently had to clear some malware off my Windows 10 laptop after it got infected. Malwarebytes found and deleted it all and subsequent scans have come back clean. However since then when I try to open certain apps/programs (Edge and Photos so far) I get a message saying "*program* can't be opened using the Built-in administrator Account. Sign in with a different account and try again" I have only ever had one account on this laptop so I'm not sure how to change this back so I can access all programs. So far all the things I use regularly are working fine so it's more an annoyance than anything. I've read some fixes online but they involve opening Local Security Policy which isn't available on my edition of Windows 10. Does anyone know what the issue is and how I can sort it? Many thanks. ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted January 5, 2016 ExTS Admin Posted January 5, 2016 Hi Have you tried the workaround for Win10 Home users in this link: Windows 10 Edge can’t be opened using the built-in administrator account You'll have to scroll down to the 'Updated for Windows 10 Home Users' section. decemberboy Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes I did try that but it still wouldn't open. I'm not even sure why my account has become a Built-in Administrator one? Beforehand I signed in with the same password etc and had access to everything. Quote
DSTM Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 I am wondering if you opened a local account would that help. Quote Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.
decemberboy Posted January 8, 2016 Author Posted January 8, 2016 Is that just a case of adding a user and then using that one as my default account? Quote
KenB Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Is that just a case of adding a user and then using that one as my default account? Sorry for the late reply decemberboy.
