My computer will not get past recovery logo.

I removed the hard drive and put it into a caddy and booted up a laptop using the hard drive as an bootable key drive, this proves the hard drive is working.

Return the hard drive to the desktop unit and it freezes again on the recovery logo.

has the cpu got a glitch or a dry joint on the board ??

thanking you for any advise

Hi Gary and welcome to ExTS :)

I am sorry for the slow reply.

Do you get a POST beep when you switch the machine on ?

One beep is normal.

I am surprised that the desktop system booted up on another machine - but if it did all well and good,

Can you let us know what Operating System is on the desktop please ?

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

Hi all.

OS is windows 10.

It boots to the windows logo then goes to the repair screen and then freezes It will not go to safe start or give you an option to do anything but repair.

My lappy is win 10 and is compatible with the desktop

I am usually quite savvy with computers but this has made me question my abilities.

Thanking you all in advance.

It wouldn't even get to a user interface. Just said attempting to repair and then froze..left it on overnight in case it was needing the time but nothing....

so have now been out and replaced the tower with a new one but I will keep trying to get it to work.

thank you all for your input :)

1 Beep is normal.

Connect the drive back up to the working laptop.

Take a look in "This PC" and make sure the drive is showing with a Drive letter [ could be E: ]

Make a note of the Drive letter.

Go to Command Prompt.

To do this right click on the window bottom left of screen > Command Prompt ( Admin )

A box with a black background will open.

Leave the problem drive connected.

At the prompt type in ....... chkdsk X: /f ....... ENTER...........where X is the drive letter of your drive.

There is a space before and after X:

This will check your hard-drive for errors and attempt to fix them.

No data will be lost.

This may take sometime - depends on the size of the drive.
