I have a Cannon iP4850 printer and is ha always worked fine in the past but lately it seems to have a problem when printing in grey-scale, the top half of the page is fine but the bottom is very faint, the text is visible but unreadable.

I have tried all the suggestions suggested in the manual.

Any thought of how to solve this problem.

Thanks.

Hi Roy

Printers are not my forte - hence the slow response.

When you say

tried all the suggestions suggested in the manual.

Have you deleted and re-installed the drivers ?

I assume that the page prints OK if you select colour ?

Is the black cartridge full - ie. not low on ink ?

Is the black cartridge a Canon or a clone ?

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

just a thought again--have you ran two pages off together [one straight after the other] is the print ok for half the first page but faint for the bottom half of page one and faint page two?

I think its worth changing the clone BLACK ink for an other, I've had some problems with generic inks in the past but in fairness I always use them only due to costs.

Changed the ink cartridge and printed 2 sheets in grey scale all OK, therefore will hope all is solved.

Thanks for your help.
