Hi George

Sorry for the delay in replying.

ive formatted 2 laptops with the same windows cd

Do you mean that you used the same disk to install Windows on both machines ?

Which Operating System is on the problem machine?

If you go to Device Manager - are there any yellow exclamation marks against "Network Adapters" when you click on it?

What is listed ?

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

Hi again,

Do you mean that you used the same disk to install Windows on both machines ?

You didn't answer this.

The yellow exclamation mark suggests a problem with the drivers.

What is the make and model number of your machine.

I may be able to locate the appropriate drivers.

different cd

That's fine.

Click Start > Right click "Computer" > Click "Properties"

You need to know if your system is 64 bit or 32 bit.

[ It affects which drivers you need ]

The link below is for Win7 - 64bit

Then go here:

http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/inspiron-15r-n5110/drivers/advanced

Click on "Network"

There are 9 files. 8 of these relate to "Wireless" but the last one is the "Ethernet Controller"

Select this and download.

It should install immediately after downloading.

After it installs check your Wired Internet Connection again. ( Make sure that you have a cable connected from the computer to the router )

It might be worth checking to see if there's any updated Graphics drivers available for your system.

I've had similar problems in the past when reinstalling an OS.

1024 x 768 used to be a popular resolution, but nowadays that seems to have been superseded by 1366×768 (this is what my laptop is )

You may need the latest drivers to achieve this.
