I have a number of PCs All running W10 and all connected by lan cable to a Lynksys WAG 200G router.

From the control panel, the network cards on the PCs say they are "Intel® 82566DM-2 Gigabit Network Connection"

When I transfer files from one PC to another the connection only runs at about 12MBps - is that correct? I had hoped for a lot faster!

Any info welcome.

Hi joddle,

I think the problem may lie with your router.

The WAG200G is a wireless ADSL2+ router. It has four 10/100 Base-T Ethernet ports .

The 100 = 100Mb/s ( Megabits / sec )

100Mb/s = 12.5 MB/s (Megabytes / sec )

[ 8 bits in a Byte ]

So - no matter how fast your NIC cards are - your transfer speed is limited by the speed of your router.

I hope this makes sense ?

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

Yes that makes perfect sense. Time for a new router methinks - I was going to change anyway as the kids tablets and pcs all have N capability so perhaps the old router is getting a bit long in the tooth - many thanks for your reply.
