Hi

Have 6 month old pc that runs very quick with ssd and win10 , a week ago started to get slow loading webpages and some not at all.

Have used defender which did find TrojanDownloader:O97M/Donoff on my wifes user and cleaned it and then nothing after or on MWB . PC is generally running as fast as ever and fibre is coming in at 40/20mb .

Any suggestions would be great thanks... http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/scratchhead.gif

Cheers Kev

Hi Ken

Thanks for reply .

I am thinking now I might just do a refresh or reset as there are a few things that haven't gone quite to plan with Win 10 which should wipe out most baddies I assume...

Cheers Kev

Hi Kev,

I am thinking now I might just do a refresh or reset as there are a few things that haven't gone quite to plan with Win 10 which should wipe out most baddies I assume...

When you run a refresh/reset you will be given the option of keeping your files or to keep nothing.

Be careful what you keep ( if anything).

TrojanDownloader:O97M/Donoff normally gets into your system from an infected email attachment.... usually as a Word file (.doc)

If you keep the infected file and it's opened again.... you'll be back at square one.

Just a quick update.... Reset for windows 10 went fine just have a local admin and a local standard account.

All offline stuff working as quick or quicker than before.

Then i got onto webpages which still seem to be stubborn to load , intermittently or occasionally not at all ..

Really struggled to login to email in outlook (office 365) but did get there in the end.... very stressed at the end of a Saturday night in front of the screen..

Today i remembered i had a spare router but also remembered ethernet cables deteriorating and causing problems on my work pc so tried changing the one between the BT fibre box and the router. ( as ethernet or wireless didnt make any difference to the pc)

This has seemed to improve things but tonight have still had some odd sites struggling to load all content.

I might try the spare router tomorrow night .

Does this seem a strange one or could there be something hardware wise i could check , phone fibre provider or something else ??

Cheers Kev

Hi Kev

When I started reading your last post I thought ...."router" .....

Swap it over and try the spare.

No harm done and if there is no change at least you can rule this out :)

Run a Speed Test from here:

http://www.speedtest.net/

Let me know the download speed

How does this compare with what you should be getting ?

Hi Ken

At work now but speedtest.net gives around 38mb/18mb from 40mb/20mb max so no problem.

It just seems to almost struggle to reach and connect to whatever site .

I assume some sites are faster if cache has same content.

PlusNet does give a resetting procedure i'll try first , just strange changing the cable between router and openreach modem did help a fair bit.

Yep ;)

Also other devices seem comparatively ok but are fairly low powered compared to the new pc and possibly wouldn't notice it.

Packet loss seems to be something mentioned on various sites , not exactly what this is or what causes it ..... could this be a reason speedtest is fine but connecting to site isn't?C

In my signature at the bottom is "Wireless Test" "Network Test"

If you are connected Wireless use this one - cable use "Network"

Click on this - It will take a little time ...then open a log in "Notepad"

Copy this log and post it here please.

It may show something useful :)

Hi Kev,

You didn't say which browser you are using?

Have you tried another browser to see if that helps?

In Win10 are you using 'Edge' as your browser?... if so, try using Internet Explorer ( a copy is installed on Win10 systems)

Click Start >> All Apps >> Windows Accessories >> Internet Explorer.

In Win10 are you using 'Edge' as your browser?... if so, try using Internet Explorer ( a copy is installed on Win10 systems)

Click Start >> All Apps >> Windows Accessories >> Internet Explorer.

Please try this.

It would be a good idea to download FireFox or Chrome if you don't have them already.

It is fine to have 2 or 3 different browser options.

Thanks for checking Ken.

Have tried Edge FF and IE .... FF does generally seem better but still not great.

Seemed strange after resetting modem and router that loading was almost spot on for 15mins or so then gradually slowed up again. Simple pages like google are instant and speed test is pretty good.

Will try spare router tonight to check and maybe call plusnet...

OK . after changing router over to spare one seems to be almost back to normal now for a day and a bit , just occasionally have to kill browser and then reloads straight away. (usually BBC weather  )

A little annoying with hours spent on it resetting , but quite nice having clean install of win10 again anyway i suppose. :)

Thanks for help
