Revo uninstaller - no hp printer shown and no printer shown in add/remove programmes. Kaspersky software is very different to the one shown In threat inclusionlist the "no documents / settings" does not appear. To use the exclusion process is very complicated and not easy to understand. Would it be better to bin Kaspersky altogether ?? (Major exercise) Security essentials would not do a full scan-binned that. Latest issue windows 7 updates -says I am up to date although none for over three weeks. Neil Quote
KenB Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Hi Neil, back up yesterday - 40 minutes -ok. This seems to be OK :) Starbuck will advise on an alternative to Kaspersky if this is necessary. If you wish to continue: To uninstall HP Drivers try this: Power off the HP Deskjet printer and disconnect the USB cable. Click the "Start" button and select "All Programs." Click the "HP" folder, and then click on your printer's name and model number. Click "Uninstall." Select "HP Basic Device Software" to remove the drivers, then select any other software components you want to uninstall. Click "Next" to remove the drivers and other selected software from the computer. Restart your computer, if prompted. Don't connect the USB cable to the printer. Try the Kaspersky scan now. You have to browse to the folder containing the HP drivers that are causing the problem. In the next pic... 'Object' ...... this would be the actual file that causes the problem. (Vulnerability scan also ok) This morning Microsoft updates installed ok. Printer working ok. Will observe performance to decide if it is necessary to uninstall Kaspersky. The amount of views to this thread is beyond belief - I do hope many members have learnt from your combined superb advice. I fully appreciate your expertise , advice and patience. neilofnorton Posted September 14, 2016 Author Posted September 14, 2016 Ken 4th time I have tried to send this reply. Keeps telling to log in (I am) and refresh the page. I could not find trace of HP on the add or remove program. HP print and scan doctor identified the printer, Windows sent me a test page which identified driver UNIDRIV.DLL version 6. Identified 24 hp files and 4 STD files used by this driver. Windows printer page stated if I could read the page I have correctly installed the printer on the PC. Did a Kaspersky vulnerability test - ok Did a full Kaspersky scan - 6 hours later - no seizure - ok Did not go near the Kaspersky programme to isolate anything. Very complicated instructions. ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted September 19, 2016 ExTS Admin Posted September 19, 2016 Sorry, have only just seen this: 6 hours seems a long time for a scan. Pete may comment on this. Kaspersky is notoriously slow when running a full scan. Average time should be about 4 - 5 hours ..... but there's a lot complaining that the scan can take up to 15 hours. Always remember.... it's not always necessary to run a full scan. The normal quick scan is more than good enough. If anything is found.... then run a full scan. You can speed a full scan up though, by scanning only new or changed files.
