PC taking 5 or more attempts to boot

Hi

 

When my pc is cold it is taking 5 or more attempts to boot but once it is warm it will boot first time. Any ideas?

What happens when the PC fails to boot? Can you describe it? Do you get any error messages? If so exactly what are they. I have a wild guess but it's sure to be wrong without knowing more.

 

Also can you tell us more about your PC such as the operating system you use, make/model etc.

There aren't any error messages, there's power to the unit and the monitor makes 2 sort of clicking noises and then goes off, but when it works the monitor makes 3 clicking noises. Once it's warm it will boot up fine.

 

It's a Dell Optiplex GX270, with Windows XP.

So this is not an issue of booting up but rather the monitor won't display and is making noise right? Have you tried a different monitor on this desktop?
