Its an eMachine model T3604 w/2gigs of new RAM a Celeron CPU that almost always runs at 100% another of my issues..Fist of all..This is what I have learned after attempting a cold start. "Unspecified changes to the system configuration might have caused the problem." Number of root causes:1 System files and integrity check repair:Failed Error code 02 Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6002]Copyright © 2006 Microsoft Corporation.

C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.

Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

C:\Windows\system32> BOOTMGR images is corrupt.System cannot boot. Second issue I cannot locate why its leaking memory the CPU stays at 100% .After stopping Windows Update the CPU will reduce but for only a very short time.I have run Tweaking.com latest version in Safe Mode w/Networking..HijackThis...an application D2D5DEM1 that restarts the PC Im sry I forget the manufacturer that actually worked a day or so ..I use Process Explorer the best I can ..AUTORUN wont show me much of anything I have Mic .Security Essentials only Defender is turned off..I have two accounts one was for a short time Standard now they are both Administrator user accounts. I can stay online..once its online..play poker on FB ..pay bills etc. only after I either unplug it all in the morning then I must allow the PC the attempt to repair Start Up after it runs Im good until the next morning. I know of programs like LogMein123 that I would absolutely be someones friend for life..I'm disabled have a 10.5 % mortgage with a disabled woman room mate helping me remain in my own home. 64%Free space..no disk errors...good audio and video..Subscribed to Channel 9 to try an learn..Finally, how much should I pay for or should I even buy Windows 7 ( I like Premium) in hope s that might resolve things I ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and passed..."Windows Explorer has stopped working" additional recurring issue it restarts ..don't have a DVD of Vista dont know how to burn an ISO ..or even have that software...have recovery on drive D...55 Processes 56% memory wow CPU is being very reliable right now WOW A FIRST..but will bet after another cold start its gonna be right back to 100%...anyway..........I get IE messages intermittently"the memory could not be read click ok to terminate the program"...when I restart...lots of numbers in the detailed message have one written down 0x0058492 referred 0x038a31d8...loan me the gun..i can afford the bullet. Hi Scott,

Thanks for posting in a new thread - it is easier this way.

To be honest - I find your very detailed account a bit confusing so I am going to ask a few questions. :)

1. "Start-up Fails" - I assume that this is your problem?

Is it EVERY time you try to boot up?

Has this started happening since you added new RAM.

2. You posted this in the first paragraph -

System files and integrity check repair:Failed

Then further down you say

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Was this the result of running sfc /scannow ?

Usually SFC gives more detail if it finds anything to repair / fail

These two statements seem to be conflicting. "Fail" ........"did not find any integrity violations"

3.

C:\Windows\system32> BOOTMGR images is corrupt.

If this is the case your system would not boot at all.

Is this the error you get when your system fails to boot up ?

I am wondering about the new RAM modules that you have installed.

If these are not compatible you can get all sorts of problems cropping up.

Take these out and replace with the old ones if you have them.

Failing that - take one out [ if you have 2 modules ] and try booting off the other.

Swap them over if the the problem still exists.

Let me know the results of running with different RAM.

1. Yes every morning.Only on cold starts after its been off overnight.I have no trouble starting it up after only a few hours say 2 hours. 2. System files and integrity check repair:Failed is a message I recall seeing and am unsure when that occurred but I did make a note of that. Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Was this the result of running sfc /scannow ?

That was after running "as Administrator" in Command prompt, yes.

Usually SFC gives more detail if it finds anything to repair / fail .

Every morning after its been off I turn it on and it seems to boot up normally then the screen at first was scrambled with what I would describe as blocks of all colors small and distorted.

The last time I saw this starting up on the screen the screen was all horizontal lines in color. That is when I iether hold in the button to shut it down or unplug it and restart it after that it starts up and the machine takes over and offers to Repair My Computer .

It was at that time I got the"System files and integrity check repair:Failed"

Also, "Unspecified changes to system configuration might have caused the problem" appeared. Now I did use one of several options during this option to Repair Your Computer

"Check Memory " option. I will be more detailed correctly thanks to you I am motivated and will do the suggested troubleshooting tips you mentioned and be careful to make correct notations in those processes.

This morning I started the machine and at the top of the screen it said BOOTMGR images is corrupt.

So I held in the power button until it was off and restarted..

I then unplugged it, held in the button to released the electricity and plugged it back in and it was after that I had the option to Repair and it ran then an option to Restore System I canceled that and it continued to attempt repair.

Then the option to "Send Information report to Microsoft or not send the report was shown I as usual selected Send the report to Microsoft and the option to restart was given .It then as usual restarted without failing.

Will do the RAM swap and let ya know the outcomes.

Thank you very ,very much. Scott

Try to break up your replies into blocks of information please.

It is very difficult for me to extract all of the relevant details from a large block of text.

Let me know what happens when you swap the RAM.

I assume that the original RAM is still ok and there wasn't a problem with it ?

So far all I'v done was remove one Gig module. That had zero effect of starting issue. I did download HitmanPro and found two Trojan viruses.Deleted those. I unplugged everything today let that set for over and hour and with the new gig module only I was automatically forced to allow the repair attempts which said "Windows Could not repair". So I assume from you'r last I should replace that new gig module with the original 512 module and detail what occurs at that point. Thank,Scott

Ok. The original 512 module is in.The PC starts without any problem. I apply a patch for Windows Update to run but it fails. So ,I will contact A-Tech Components where I bought the RAM modules.Thier sales rep. has been helpful thus far and has swapped the first buy with unbufferd modules that I have now and I am assuming are not the right ones because they cause the PC not to start correctly.I wish I knew which modules to ask for.Scott

Hi;

Try running the scanner from http://www.crucial.com/ You don't have to buy from Crucial but it should tell you what you need. It will show you what ram is guaranteed to be compatible.

A-Tech Components salesman is sending me two 1 Gig Ram modules ,again. He said he knows about that scan and that website and dint find it was always reliable.Never the less Hes sending two 4200 unbufferd modules.Even though I told him that scan confirmed that the modules 5300 are the compatible ones. He did say if the ones he is sending dont work he will send the 5300 ones. My Windows Update says "Never" when looking at last update scan results and last scan.I need the RAM to be 2 Gigs and the Windows Update to work before upgrading to Windows 7 ,right ? Scott

"Solved" 2 Gigs of well working RAM. Thank God.Starting just fine ,now. Now if I may...my Windows Update says Latest Updates :Never Last Updates: Never and will not repair using Fixit wu.exe. I also see Windows Explorer has stopped working then it restarts again a lot. If these are things someone might help me address I again, would be grateful. Thanks,SPSpellman AKA Scott I used "Tweaking.com" on my C drive as well as the "D" drive that is my restoration location if this would be a good idea to reformat and you don't think Tweaking.com may have infected drive "D" thats another problem. I have Avast Free Home,..Malwarebytes...,CCleaner,..HitmanPro,...HighjackThis..LSP fixer,...SpyHunter. Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool said during a scan I had 5 infected files until I stopped it reran it custom on "D" finally finished and there were -0- zero files found or quarantined .The first time I ran it..it ran for over 8 hours the progress bar was about 4 inches long yet the green progress was only 1/10 the way through and still running after over 2.6 million files scanned I find this ridiculous and suspicious.

Hi Scott,

I know I'm doing things making mistakes and I am sorry

It's not a problem..... we all make mistakes at times.

If know one is interested just say so and I can stop wasting my time.

You have to realise that everyone here are volunteers.... so can only help in their free time.

We are currently a few staff members down due to holidays and illness.

We ask you to please be patient.

It does help if your posts are easy to read.... I've re-worked your last 2 posts to show what I mean.

If you don't have a lot of free time, you're less likely to spend time trying to work out what a member is saying.

The error that you received about your Win Updates points to the windows component store being corrupt.

The first thing is to try and repair that.

Click Start >> All Programs >> Accessories,

Now right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

Type the following command, and then press the ENTER key on the keyboard: (the space is meant to be there between the c and the / )

sfc /scannow

The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

I have Avast Free Home,..Malwarebytes...,CCleaner,..HitmanPro,...Hig hjackThis..LSP fixer,...SpyHunter.

Some very old programs there.

HijackThis .... totally out of date and useless on 64bit systems.

We stopped recommending this years ago.

LSP fixer .... another very program.

Haven't used that for years as I'm not sure it's compatible with the new versions of Windows.

SpyHunter... wouldn't have that on my system if they gave it away for nothing.

Totally untrustworthy company (in my opinion )... and they hate anyone that speaks out against their software.

Try running the scannow option first.

If that doesn't help, we can check your system for adware/malware which may also be causing system issues.

I will certainly get rid of your suggested software.Although I am running a 32bit system. I will restart and attempt to run scannow option, again.Until it runs.Sorry for my impatience.Scott

That is good to hear - at least we have solved one of your problems :)

I see Starbuck has transferred your log to the Malware Removal forum.

That was before this AM start failed to boot. Repaired 1 root cause. Going call A Tech sales and get the right RAM module found by the "Crucial Scan" that suggested 5300 modules.Salesman said try the 4200 first if they dont solve the start up I'l send the 5300. Scott

Crucial Scan is usually pretty accurate otherwise we [ and other tech sites ] wouldn't recommend it.

If, as I said before, your start-up problems started after you put in new RAM then this is the obvious place to start looking for a solution.
