Hello again all,

I've recently read of someone switching their PC on, making a brew or whatever & when they've returned to their PC, Windows 10 has automatically been installed? & was still uploading for hours & they couldn't stop it, nor do any work.

I used to get the box pushing the 10 upgrade which was a damn pain, but a forumite on here explained how to block this intrusion, which I did & haven't had any issues since.

I still don't want 10 as I'm perfectly happy with 8.1, but surely this underhand update is going a tad too far........ if it's true

I've just read a post on this forum where my OP seems to be correct. But I haven't a clue how to access Widows Update to un-check the necessary box etc to avoid an automatic update of 10 to go ahead. In fact I don't know if updates ever take place on my PC. bit of a numpty when it comes to anything that doesn't require spanners.

Hi there,

but surely this underhand update is going a tad too far........ if it's true

Sadly it is true and there's been a lot of backlash over it.

But I haven't a clue how to access Widows Update to un-check the necessary box etc to avoid an automatic update of 10 to go ahead.

This M$ link will explain everything:

Turn automatic updating on or off Win 8.1

In option4 .... unticking the option will stop the Recommended updates ( some of these may try to install Win10 )

Hello Starbuck, The link didn't work, but I copied it into Google & got what you were pointing me to. Followed the info & unchecked option 4.

You're a star & a very apt username. :clap2:

A friend of mine posted on Facebook yesterday that her laptop upgraded to Windows 10 without asking - she was very unhappy! She is now reverting to Windows 8!

Hello Starbuck, The link didn't work,

That's strange.

I just tried the link again and it works for me.

You're a star & a very apt username

Thank you

A lot of people are unhappy about this new tactic from M$.

Microsoft upgraded users to Windows 10 without their OK

Microsoft's Windows 10 upgrades are getting even more sneaky-pushy

Fearing forced Windows 10 upgrades, users are disabling critical updates instead
