I have a W7 operating system and most updates- resisting W10.

I have been using firefox exclusively but of late find that links within the page I'm reading open to a blank sheet (window). Using Int. Exp. for the first time in ages to check out the fault, I'm faced with a Google page that wants to take over the computer/internet browsing. What options are there? Is it easier to learn another system? If so what?

Jim.

Firefox is working fine it's just that some links that I follow whilst using it just open with a blank screen. Just sometimes.

To diagnose, and to see if it happened in other browsers on the same links, I wanted to use Int.Exp. which is already on my desktop.

When I opened Int.Exp. I found it was taken over by google. It did not give me an 'out' option only the 'X' in the TRHC or 'NEXT'.

I do not trust them with my info. so I'm really looking for something else.

Meantime what has happened to Int. Exp.? Has it been hijacked?

Hi Jim

M$oft have not supported IE for some time now.

Has it been hijacked? yes - by M$oft !!

I suspect you are being offered "Chrome" as an alternative to IE.

I have this on my system.

You can get it here - click here

Regarding your F-Fox .....it could be a corrupt cookie(s)

You can try deleting cookies / history on F-Fox.

You will need to log-in again with name and password on sites like this that use cookies to store your details.

Thank you Ken for answering my help call. It is what I thought then, a ruse to get me onto some other sign-up basis as all the new ones have clauses that they can use your info anyway they want. Chrome is the same. I am resisting them all I can. I will change systems if I have too.

Thanks for the info.

Hi Jim,

They will keep trying !! :)

Take a look at the F-Fox link I sent you.

As an alternative you may be interested in one of these smaller, lesser known, browsers - click here

There are others too.

I used to use SRWare Iron - I have just downloaded it again and it is vastly different from the original.

This is based on Chrome but without the Google tracking etc.

[ I may go back to using this :) ]

You can have as many browsers on your system as you like. :)

Let me know if you are still having problems.

I did take a look but it does mean putting in all the passwords etc . in every time I use it and I'm too lazy to do that.

Thanks for those, I have taken a look at them. I think that chrome was the quickest and easiest to use, it was a pity it had such conditions added for the user

Maybe I'll take another look at this one, it sounds the better of those mentioned. Perhaps you'd pass on your findings?

It is ok except that it wont let me go to my mail. It wants me to go to G-Mail ( and a carefully worded agreement - all your info is theirs). If I can find a way around that it will do fine. Alternatively, is there another OS I could use/learn?

Hi Jim,

except that it wont let me go to my mail

Open your email inbox and copy the URL from the top.

Open SRWare

Top right there are 3 short horizontal black lines [ Customise and Control ] click on these

Then click on "Settings"

You then need the "On Start Up" - put a check in "Open a Specific Page ....." and then click "Set Pages"

Here you can control what loads when you open the browser.

Click in "Add New Page" box and paste your email URL - click OK

You can add other pages too if you wish.

You will need to shut SRWare down and open it again for the pages to add.

When you open SRWare your email tab will open at the top -simply click on this to take you to your Inbox.

Hope this helps.

All okey-dokey now! Thanks very much. It now goes where I want it. I did it wrong in as much as I did not see the the opening pages were not my email addy but that of G-mail and SRware. I had to get rid of them and ensure my email addy was first inline.

cheers

It only worked the once, it then reverted to the G-mail settings sign-up page. Happy bunny gone sad.

Oh dear what is wrong?

I do not get an email tab at the top, is that a pointer?

This is what I get Jim

The left tab is the SRWare one that is the default [ this can be removed ]

The others are what I have added.

If the link to your email is not showing try following the instructions again.

I seem to remember that I had an initial problem too.

If you go back to "Open a Specific Page" it should show you here the URLs that you have.

If your email one is not showing it needs to be added again.

I am sorry but it is too small for me to compare with what I have when iron is opened. Also I do not know how to crop just the top of a screen capture to show the feature for you to compare with what I get..

I did try it several times. Perhaps I keep getting it wrong- I wouldn't be surprised LOL.

Click on the image above Jim - it will enlarge.

If you have a scroll mouse - hold CTRL down and use the mouse wheel ......this will enlarge it too :)

Does the URL show up in "Open a Specific Page" ?

That worked like a dream. Thanks.

No it does not. The second that I click on OK ( and I have entered my email addy) it reverts to the G-mail page and its adverts for G-mail. Frustrating, when it opens, to say the least.

entered my email addy

addy = address ?

Jim - if you trust me to try your email URL on my system send it to me via PM.

DO NOT post it here.

I promise not to access / open any of your emails and will delete the address immediately after I have tested it.

Chances are I will need to use a password anyway [ DO NOT post or send this ] as I will not have a cookie on my system.

If you don't wish to do this I completely understand.

I just want to see if your email URL address stays in "Open a Specific Page "

Of course, done.

It doesn't. It adds something onto the end. That bit redirects it to g-mail - and the need to sign up.

A pity about that but a break refreshes whatever the weather.

I have done nothing since there was little point. What else might I help with? You mentioned a password, is that still relevant?

Hi Jim,

Is your email address the same as the one you use for here?

m***y@******mail.***

You also sent me a password

If this is correct I should be able to add you to my toolbar.

If I can I promise not to look at your mail and I will delete it immediately afterwards.

DO NOT write out complete email addresses here.
