mij Posted August 6, 2016 Author Posted August 6, 2016 Hi Jim, Is your email address the same as the one you use for here? m***y@******mail.***Yes, it is the same. You also sent me a password If this is correct I should be able to add you to my toolbar. If I can I promise not to look at your mail and I will delete it immediately afterwards. DO NOT write out complete email addresses here.Ok, no fear of that ;). Jim. Quote
KenB Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Hi Jim I managed to access your email [ I didn't open any :) ] and I now have it on my tabs along the top of SRWare Iron. [ I will delete this when we have finished ] I logged into my Gmail account normally. At the right top corner should be a circle with a letter in [ mine is blue with a "K" ] I clicked on this and selected " Add an Account" I put your details in here. Then I could access your email from my own by clicking on the circle [ top right ] and selecting your account. I have 2 of my own accounts registered - and yours made 3 The original link you gave me confused me at first as it was exactly the same as my own. Looking more closely there is a small difference between the links for my 3 accounts [ this includes your email ] /mail/u/0/#inbox Everything remains the same except the /u/0 ......this changes to ...../u/1 ........and u/2 for your email account. Your URL will show ........ /mail/u/0/#inbox ...... as you do not have any other accounts associated with your Gmail on YOUR computer. Gmail must use your IP Address as an identifier for your account However - I think I have come up with a solution .....just testing it now .....get back to you. ======================== EDIT. This works for me - give it a try. I have sent you a PM with the complete URL. Open SRWare Iron and click on the three bars top right corner. Click on "Settings" Under "On Start-up" make sure that the third option "Open a specific page or set of pages" is checked. Click on "Set pages" Copy the URL I sent you and paste it into the box where it says "add a new page" Click OK Now close SRWare Iron and re-open it again. Hopefully you should have a link to your email account. If you get the re-direct after this I can only assume that you need a Google account for it to work. :( ======================== I have removed your email association with my account. I can no longer access your emails without logging in with your password. I advise you to change this again [ not that I would access your mail :) ] Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! mij Posted August 9, 2016 Author Posted August 9, 2016 I just tried attaching a screen dump but it was too large. It opened the same page on GMAIL as ff, that is with an invitation to sign up for GMAIL which of course I am avoiding. jim Quote
KenB Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 an invitation to sign up for GMAIL Do you mean a Google Account ? [ you already have a gmail address ] If you tried the link I sent you via PM and that didn't work it must be the fact that you don't have a Google account. I can't think of another way around it Jim.:( Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! mij Posted August 10, 2016 Author Posted August 10, 2016 I am now unsure myself. I assumed having an email addy and password to access it gave me a google account. Is this not so? Since google have opted for 'GMAIL' in their email addy's, I have been constantly invited to change and sign in to GMAIL, which I have avoided because the change in the conditions give them the right to use my info as their own. I know that is the way of the world, especially stateside, but I don't have to go there like sheeple. That is why I am looking for another system. W10 has gone that way, that must be why they gave it away. Jim. Quote
KenB Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 I assumed having an email addy and password to access it gave me a google account. Is this not so? Take a look here - click here The answer to your question is - No - but the link will tell you if your email address is associated with an account. mij Posted August 12, 2016 Author Posted August 12, 2016 Thank you for that link and I found that they knew all about me and it opened a page which was headed "MY ACCOUNT". I could alter any info they had recorded there but of course I had no need. It did say I had altered the password on the 7th August last. This page is contrary to your findings? Jim.. Quote
mij Posted August 14, 2016 Author Posted August 14, 2016 Take a look here - click here The answer to your question is - No - but the link will tell you if your email address is associated with an account. It looks as if I do have an account I think. I cannot understand why it still wants me to sign up with Gmail and all that involves. Perhaps I'd best slide across to another OS. Jim Quote
KenB Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Sorry for the slow response Jim - I have been away ( again ! ) :) Let me know if you want further advice. Perhaps I'd best slide across to another OS. Did you mean "browser" ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! I did mean another OS because I have tried the browser you recommended and it did not work in my favour. Jim. Quote
KenB Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Hi Jim, Take a look here - click here Linux is probably the one to try first. Linux Mint is a popular choice - click here Various versions available You can run this from a DVD to try it without actually installing it. To do this you would need to have the DVD / CD first in the Boot Options in the BIOS Mint [ as with most other free OS ] does not come with embedded drivers. mij Posted September 9, 2016 Author Posted September 9, 2016 Thanks for that and for the links. It looks as if linux mint should suit. It'll probably take me a while but worth it in the end. Jim. Quote
