Hi. My dad has a new laptop which is running Windows 10. Since I have read him the riot act about randomly on Pop Ups, he now tells me when anything appears on his screen. He rang me tonight to tell me he occasionally gets a Pop Up when he is on his e mails which say " System registry error. System uses WPS Office as default for doc.xls.ppt files. Would you like to repair?" Or something like that. He says he can still print the emails , which are normally invoices. Any advice on what this is and what to do? He doesn't have Microsoft office installed, he uses Libre Office for work documents

Hi,

" System registry error. System uses WPS Office ......"

WPS Office [ Writer - Presentation - Spreadsheets ] was previously known as Kingsoft Office.

Has your father somehow installed this Chinese-based software ? [ WPS Office ]

Ask him to look in Add or Remove to see if it is installed.

If so - remove it.

Search Option [ magnifying glass - usually bottom left ] - type in ....add remove ....click on the Add or Remove that appears left of screen.

Alternatively he can install Revo Uninstaller from here - click here

This will list everything that is installed and it is a simple case of selecting what you want to remove and click on "Uninstall"

Make sure you get the Free version.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

Is WPS Office a threat?

No - I don't think so.

It was initially developed in China around the 1980s and is supposed to be compatible with MS Office.

Let me know how you get on :)
