Cheemag Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Good Afternoon All, I reinstalled Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP-1. I downloaded and installed the Servicing Stack Update and KB3125574 and ran them. This gave me only some 50 or so important updates. Since then no further updates have been notified although I know there are many pending (other two machines are updating). I selected an optional update for download, but I get nothing: 0KB 0% downloaded. Check for updates says none available. Any ideas ? Quote Regards, Cheemag

You actually mean there's no-one looking after my interests exclusively ? Shame! :o) Sincere apologies. One does indeed tend to forget that forums are run by volunteers. Sorry. The problem with one of my Windows 7 Pro machines is that, although I'm prepared to believe that KB3125574 brings the machine up-to-date even though not all the updates may be shown, it still won't download and install updates. Looking for updates tell me there are none available If I ask it to download an optional update, it says OK downloading but never does 0% 0KB downloaded over hours at a time. Other two W7 Pro machines get occasional updates, so I know there are updates available. Any ideas would be appreciated. Again, apologies. Quote Regards, Cheemag
ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted August 22, 2016 ExTS Admin Posted August 22, 2016 (edited) Hi Cheemag, Sincere apologies. One does indeed tend to forget that forums are run by volunteers. Sorry. Ok, all forgotten now :) Running the 'Windows 7 SP1 Convenience Rollup' isn't as straight forward as M$ would have you believe. Did you make sure that you had SP1 installed before running KB3125574 ? Also, something else that M$ neglected to mention......You can’t simply install the Convenience Rollup after installing Service Pack 1. You have to first install the April 2015 Servicing Stack Update first... Don’t ask us why; That can be found here: April 2015 Servicing Stack Update download page Scroll down to the download links on the page. Then click the appropriate link to download the update for either an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit version) of Windows 7. Did you do all of this first? Also KB3125574 is not without problems: FAQ/ConvenienceRollupKB3125574-Issues This explains that some optional updates need to be installed before KB3125574. Cheemag Posted August 28, 2016 Author Posted August 28, 2016 Hi Cheemag, Ok, all forgotten now :) Running the 'Windows 7 SP1 Convenience Rollup' isn't as straight forward as M$ would have you believe. Did you make sure that you had SP1 installed before running KB3125574 ? The install disc comes with SP-1 incorporated. Also, something else that M$ neglected to mention......You can’t simply install the Convenience Rollup after installing Service Pack 1. You have to first install the April 2015 Servicing Stack Update first... Don’t ask us why; That can be found here: April 2015 Servicing Stack Update download page It's just not possible to uninstall SP-1 !! Scroll down to the download links on the page. Then click the appropriate link to download the update for either an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit version) of Windows 7. Did you do all of this first? Yes, I downloaded and installed both the Servicing Stack Update followed by KB3125574. Also KB3125574 is not without problems: FAQ/ConvenienceRollupKB3125574-Issues This explains that some optional updates need to be installed before KB3125574. What a bloody mess the Windows update system is ! I'll have a look at these links. If no luck I'll have to run the system unpatched and rely on Kaspersky 2017 and a few other apps to keep the machine clean. Thanks again, Regards Cheemag Quote Regards, Cheemag
ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted August 28, 2016 ExTS Admin Posted August 28, 2016 What a bloody mess the Windows update system is ! I can't argue with that. Even the Win10 updates are having problems..... so M$ just haven't learned anything. Quote Member of:UNITE
