wont boot from cd

im trying to install PClinuxOS on my pc but it wont boot from cd

uive tried the cd on other pcs and it works

my cd drive is picked up in POST and in the BIOS

ive also tried pressing F11 and selecting boot from cd

and excluding boot from hdd from the boot sequence

 

but nothing works :/

any help?

Have you tried just running it from the cd Wardy rather than trying to boot from it?

 

If you want to install it as as separate OS then that's a different story.

and how would i go about running from the cd?

 

and yes i do want to install it but as a second operating system to dual boot my system

When you insert the linux cd it should auto run and enable you to run it.

As for dual-booting, you'll need something like GRUB.

If this is the same computer as his other post I think he wants to boot from the Linux CD because the hard drive had a previously installed Windows XP on it that is now non functional but he does not have access to an XP CD to repair it.

 

When you say the other PC uses and boots okay from the CD do you mean that taking our your CD-ROM drive and putting it into another computer and using the exact same Linux CD that it will boot and run from the Linux CD but not on yours?

nope, i have booted from loads of other cds

one of them was made in power iso

and i cant get cute partition manager to work

or PClinuxOS

both also made in power iso..

and yes i did finalize the disc

and no its a different pc but i want to partion the drive and install a second operating system

yes i have booted it on 2 other pcs

Maybe track down a BIOS update for the motherboard - If the same hardware and disk work on another computer then it sure would seem to point to either a hardware conflict or BIOS setting on the system, maybe that system does not support CD booting.

sorry to jump in on the thread, have you had any luck wardy as i also am having a similar problem, how would you go about finding bios/motherboard updates?

 

and how do i find what model, version etc motherboard/bios i have!
