On the whole I love w10 and edge BUT one thing driving me crazy is that when using Edge and I get a url or a telephone number I cannot simply copy and paste them - they always open an app or link. How do I disable those so I can simply copy a telephone number and past it into a document or something. I am not so worries abut URLs as they can be quite useful but the phone numbers are a real nuisance. there must e a simple switch somewhere to turn these facilities on or off - but where?

Hi joddle,

I never use Edge, but just had a play with it to try and see what you meant.

Yep, that is annoying isn't it.

The official answer is that you can't.

Edge doesn't work that way..... another M$ bright idea.

Ok, there is a workaround though.... this is what I did:

Highlighted a phone number and this came up:

Clicked on NO and the screen went away and left this: (the number was highlighted)

Now use the Keyboard shortcut for copy: CTL + C

The number will now be copied to the Clipboard.

Then go to your document ( I tried a Notepad Doc ) use the keyboard shortcut for Paste: CTL + V

and the number pasted into the doc.

Give this a try.

It's not a perfect answer, but it's a workaround if you still want to use Edge.

Don't forget that Win10 still has IE installed if you want to use that:

Start >> All Apps >> Windows Accessories >> Internet Explorer

or if you have the latest anniversary update:

Start >> Windows Accessories >> Internet Explorer

Anniversary Update does away with the All Apps button and just lists all the Apps for you instead.

Thanks - that's pretty neat . At least it works!
