Osprey Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 I know this is browser related - but a bit stuck where to go for help. On W10 I access Facebook via Firefox For past couple of week I have been unable to attach any pictures to Facebook .... (Firefox v48.02) Also as a test tried MS Edge - same fault I get a moving bar that looks like its in progress then after a few minutes it just fails and goes back to the post ... occasionally it gives the word 'Error' and a blank pic with an 'x' but not every time. If I add pictures to FB via my phone it works fine, so proves account & the pictures are OK. So must be PC config related. I tried the advice to make sure no old versions of Flash installed, and version is current. Also deleted history & cache. May help ... on help pages for FB it say to use option on main page to 'report a problem' when I try that I again get the moving bar and failure to complete ... so can't even report the problem. (did report from phone but response seems to be, thanks but we may never reply) Quote
KenB Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 Hi, So in F-B you click on the camera image > select the photo image from your files > Click "Open" or "OK" Is this correct ? Is the photo a standard format [ .jpg / .png / .gif ] ? 'report a problem' when I try that I again get the moving bar and failure to complete I would suggest that this is a F-B problem. F-B seems to use different systems for different devices. I am admin on a public music page and there are differences when viewed on a phone to a laptop. Try logging in from a different laptop. This will confirm if it is your machine or not. .... thanks but we may never reply And they never will !! Osprey Posted September 17, 2016 Author Posted September 17, 2016 (edited) Hi, Is the photo a standard format [ .jpg / .png / .gif ] ? Try logging in from a different laptop. This will confirm if it is your machine or not. And they never will !! Loading exactly the method you described. The photos are standard jpeg and only around 1Mb ... and load fine via phone - so not the image file Confirm it works fine from phone and from another PC ...... so proves FB account is fine ....so it is something specific to my W10 PC I have installed latest FLASH and tried it with Ant-virus disabled - no difference ...... points to it being a W10 config problem. KenB Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 Hi, Have you tried a different browser on the problem machine ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
Osprey Posted September 18, 2016 Author Posted September 18, 2016 As mentioned in original post ... yes its same with MS Edge. So not a Firefox issue .... and it works fine on other PC's via Firefox Quote
KenB Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 As mentioned in original post ... yes its same with MS Edge. Sorry - I missed this :( I have installed latest FLASH Did you uninstall the old version first ? If not - I suggest that you uninstall Flash and re-install afresh. You can use RevoUninstaller to do this. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
Osprey Posted September 18, 2016 Author Posted September 18, 2016 I did uninstall first using IObit uninstaller. Quote
KenB Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 I have seen on other forums that malware can cause this problem. If you have Malwarebytes on your system run this - just to be sure. click here for Malwarebytes [ you want the free version ] Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Osprey Posted September 19, 2016 Author Posted September 19, 2016 I have run Malwarebytes - nothing found SuperAnti spoyware - nothing found sfc /scannow dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth chkdsk /r /f No errors on any of these. Tried on other PC's works fine (confirming my account is OK) ... same pictures open & load to other sites fine. Created a 'new account' on this PC ... upload fails So it must be something on the W10 config. Quote
ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted September 19, 2016 ExTS Admin Posted September 19, 2016 I have installed latest FLASH and tried it with Ant-virus disabled - no difference Just to point out that FB doesn't use Flash anymore..... they have switched over to HTML5. ( Flash isn't that secure) But this is only needed to play videos. So it must be something on the W10 config. I've uploaded pics from my Win10 desktop system and my win10 laptop without any problem. But it does seem that this is fairly common. I did a Google search for .... problems uploading pics to facebook win 10 and there's loads complaining....... but it does seem random as it doesn't effect everyone. But no conclusive answer. Osprey Posted September 19, 2016 Author Posted September 19, 2016 Interesting then that Fb help files only advice for this issue is to upgrade Flash .. bit out of date then Quote
ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted September 19, 2016 ExTS Admin Posted September 19, 2016 Yes the FB help page is out of date. FB changed over to HTML5 in December last year. http://www.theverge.com/2015/12/18/10623738/facebook-now-using-html5-all-videos Quote Member of:UNITE

Osprey Posted September 23, 2016 Author Posted September 23, 2016 OK ... resolved. It was not hardware as suggested (thankfully) it was as I expected W10 corruption. Contacted Microsoft support - they carried out a rest of W10 to original default settings ............ and all works again OK ... resolved.
