mechanic Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 I am a bit of a learner with some of this stuff so hope you people will bear with me! I have a laptop which has windows 7 pro and a desktop with windows 7 pro also. I would like to transfer all the music etc that is on my laptop to the desktop. I read that i could use " windows easy transfer". I started the process and it seemed to start without much problem. My difficulty is that i have a download limit with my service provider and wondered if this would exceed this, so stopped the transfer. Is the transfer of this data via my service provider? If so is there a way for me to transfer my music photos etc another way.Would really like some advice please. Quote
GRANDAD Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 Hi, I'm no expert but I would fail to see that your transfer of data between your units would be via your service provider. This would just transfer between both your units. Question--how large are these files? If you have any doubt in your mind you could copy these files onto a DVD disc but remember these are only 4.6ish GB in size each. As an example in one section of my computer I have 324 music files which only comes to less than 1GB. Hence one disc should hold at least 1450 files depending on format. No doubt someone else may well jump onto this but I would think your fears are unfounded. Good luck with your transfer of your files. Quote

This would just transfer between both your units. That's right. You can use a direct cable, CD/DVD or USB. None of these methods would use your data allowance. The easiest way to transfer the files is direct to a USB stick.... this doesn't use your data allowance. These are quite cheap and can be bought in 8GB, 16Gb, 32GB etc Just copy all of your music to the USB stick then put the USB stick in the other m/c and copy them over to the music folder. The advantage here is that you can also leave the files on the USB stick and have a backup just in case you need it. All of my music and Pictures are backed up to a USB stick.... they are also backed up to Dropbox. The advantage of Dropbox is that you can download load them again to any m/c or device .... but this will use your data allowance. Quote Member of:UNITE
