Malwarebytes claim have a a Ransomware defeating programme!!

Hi all

This may be out of date but while reaearching I have found a claim that Malwarebytes have developed a programme that absolutely stops ramsomware getting into your computer! https://blog.malwarebytes.com/malwarebytes-news/2016/01/introducing-the-malwarebytes-anti-ransomware-beta/

Can anyone verify this?

Yes the program seems to work well from what I've heard, although I haven't tried it myself.

To be honest I thought that it would be out of beta by now, but it's not.

What does Beta mean?

Also with the threat that ransomware poses I would ask the question why isn't everyone signing up to the Malwarebytes programme to protect their PC from ransomware?

Hi Ray,

 

Beta means it's not finished and has been put out for testing.

There may still be glitches and bugs in it.

We don't normally recommend that people download beta programs in case it causes problems with their system.

This is why a lot will hold off installing it and will wait for the finished article.

"Beta" indicates that the software is still under test and could have bugs in it.

The developers have tested it as far as they can and have released it for general use so that people like you and me can give them feedback if we find any bugs or hitches in the software.

When they are happy that the software works as it should they will remove the "Beta" tag.

 

I have just installed this and I can't open it from the desktop icon.

I can, however, open it from the Task Bar.

If this is a common occurrence then the developers would need to take a look at it.

 

EDIT:

I can now open it from the desktop as long as I right click and "Run as Administrator" :)

Not the usual way of doing things.

Thanks for the info Ken.

I can now open it both from desktop icon and Start menu and all seems to be fine.

However earlier when I tried click out of it everything froze and I was forced to turn off from the start menu but upon booting up as stated the programme now is responsive (perhaps to complete the download it I needed to re start?
