philipg1969 Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 I am trying to install a GTX560 graphics card into a Dell Vostro 430. It works fine with the GT610 that is currently fitted but after fitting the GTX560 into the PCIe slot when I switch the PC on I get a succession of short beeps that suggests the test on startup has a problem with the video. The PC restarts and the same error occurs and carries on in a loop. This is actually the second graphics card I have tried that requires the additional power from the PSU. The first one was a Radeon 5850 and although the PC did not report an error with the beeps on startup the furthest I could get with this card was the startup/bios (not windows) and the screen was corrupted. The Radeon 5850 required two 6 Pin PCIe power connectors that I plugged into my PSU on two separate rails just in case this was the problem. The Nvidia GTX560 only requires one PCie power connector and although I am getting power to the card as the fan spins around on startup (as the fan on the Radeon 5850 did also) the video card is failing for some reason and preventing the PC loading windows. My PSU is a Corsair 750 watt so I would not think the power supply is a problem and the beeps would not signify any problem with the RAM as when i take the GTX560 graphics card out and replace it with the lesser GT610 that only has DDR3 and not GDDR5 and only requires power from the PCIe slot on my motherboard everything is fine and memory tests indicate no detected problems. The graphics in the BIOS is already selected to try the PCie slot first and not any on-board graphics. In my opinion the BIOS on this machine seems a bit limited but unfortunately it is updated to the latest version 2.4.0 so I have no options in that respect. I would be very grateful if anyone has any ideas as I just don't know what else to try with this one. KenB Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 Hi Firstly I must apologise for the slow response - I have been tied up [ not literally :) ] over the last few days. I switch the PC on I get a succession of short beeps ..........The first one was a Radeon 5850 ....... furthest I could get with this card was the startup/bios..... two 6 Pin PCIe power connectors..... The Nvidia GTX560 only requires one PCie power connector ..... the video card is failing for some reason and preventing the PC loading windows. As you have tried 2 cards unsuccessfully I am tempted to look at the additional power connections. Your original card did not need supplementary power - the two failed cards do. Do you have a volt meter / multimeter to test the voltage supplied to the cards by the connections? I know you say that the fans are spinning but this is not real test as they will spin with a much reduced power supply. Can you try the GTX560 in another machine to see if you get the same results? I am a bit confused as you state 1 x 6 pin connection for the GTX560 - the specs I found suggest that there are two ?
