johnyboy Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Hello all, I have just joined your forum hoping to get help with a computer problem I have. I have just logged onto a laptop computer that has not been used since November 2015, so decided to update windows, when I click onto check for updates it continues trying to find updates for several minutes before throwing up a message requesting to try again, which I have done many times without success. I have it set to automatically install updates, I found the Windows update troubleshooter and ran it, but it did not find anything but gave out this code 0X 800705b4. Any help would be much appreciated. Johnyboy. Quote

I found this fix relating to that error code..... give it a try and see if it works for you. Open Windows updates click on “Advanced options” Clear the option to get updates for other Microsoft products when you updates windows Restart your system, then check for updates The update process should hopefully complete successfully now (note, you may have to run it more than once to get all the updates) As soon as you get the message “Your device is up to date”, go to the “Advanced options” again and re-select the option to get updates for other Microsoft products (if you have any ) Check for updates again, you should now be able to download and install them Quote Member of:UNITE

Many thanks for your help in solving this problem, the fix you posted resolved the matter and the computer is now fully updated and running fine. When it finally started to update I think it said that it was the anniversary update and if I changed my mind I can revert back again. Many thanks again. Johnyboy. Quote

That's right. The only thing to point out though is that when systems were first updated to Win10, you had 30 days in which to roll back to the previous Operating System. Microsoft have now changed this for the Anniversary Update to 10 days. So you have a much shorter time to decide if the update is for you. If you did decide to roll back to the previous version of Win10, here's how to do it: Open the Windows 10 Settings app Select 'Updates & Security' and then 'Recovery' from the sub-menu Click on 'Get Started' underneath the 'Go back to an earlier build' heading Answer the feedback question with whichever reason is appropriate and click 'Next' Cycle through the confirmations and alerts until the process begins Wait for a bit and when finished you will be back to the previous version of Win10.
