Jelly Bean Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 George you may struggle still to get a decent signal... It may work. Have you tried reinstalling the dongles software and try to reconnect? JB? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................

KenB Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 Hi George, wifi dongle installed and has worked fine in the past The only real test is to take the desktop back into the house - connect up - and see if the WiFi is working. If it is then it is the signal that is the problem. It will get weaker as the distance from the router increases. I even have problems with my own router and it is only upstairs!! If the wifi is working in the house then you will need to boost the signal to your office. I use this method - click here It is only good if the mains power in your office is on the same circuit as your house wiring. What this method does is to use your house wiring circuit to carry the signal from a unit plugged in close to the router to a receiver in your office via the mains wiring. The system I have has an ethernet cable option on the unit that would be in your office - so you could use wifi or cable. This is a cheaper option based on the same technology - click here It is NOT wireless but allows you to use an ethernet cable to your desktop in the office. There are cheaper ones if you do a bit of searching. It is possible to get wireless / cable extenders but these are more expensive. You need to find out if the desktop wireless adapter is actually working and [ as I suspect ] the problem is a weak signal. curiousgeorge Posted November 22, 2016 Author Posted November 22, 2016 Hiya Ken i will bring the desktop inside later today cheers for that .To answer JBs question yes it is in Device manager the ones with yellow symbols next to them are Gigabit network connection,802.11WLAN, Bluetooth periferal device,SM bus controller and usb controller Quote
joddle Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 I had a similar issue with needing wi fi at a remote location and tried the wi fi extenders with only very limited results. Loads of drop out and the devices needed careful positioning and often rebooting. In the end, despite having misgivings, I tried a powerline adapter and even though the remote room is 100m away from the router it works absolutely fine - no drop out reasonable speeds and a clone of my wifi network to boot. So I don't even have to change settings on phones or laptops - simply go from one location to the other. The units I am using are by TP link with one sender unit and a wifi adapter at the other end which also has 2 Ethernet connections which I find useful. In fact I am so impressed by the system I have added another wi fi adapter to serve another place in the house which was a bit of a dead spot and everything has been working fine ever since Quote
KenB Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 i will bring the desktop inside later today Are you still having problems George ? Gigabit network connection,802.11WLAN, Bluetooth periferal device,SM bus controller and usb controller Yellow exclamation marks next to the highlighted items in Device Manager indicates driver problems.
