Also cant fix 'stuck on updates'

I see you have assisted Pitfall in November who had issues with continuing updates.

I have the same problem and have followed instructions you gave to fix the problem which indeed is a fix but then when I click search for updates the problem is still there.

 

I normally get Windows Defender update daily but they have ceased over last 3 days which is what prompted me to click 'search for updates' In the Updates control panel and caused the updates search to go on forever.

This is worrying as I don't think the usual Windows Defender update is not getting through.

I had this same problem some way back and it got cured and I think it was via this forum.

Is it possible to search back to find any original posts or any other help please?

Yes the site is searchable.

The search box should be at the top left of the screen.

But to narrow down the search you would need to be specific about the search terms.

Searching for 'Windows Updates' pulls up 20 pages of threads.

Believe it or not I have solved the problem! at least for me although my findings may also help others suffering what seems to be a common problem!

Here's the fix :- Unfortunately it won't work unless you have some optional (not important) updates) waiting for installation.

I overcame the problem by installing the 62 optional updates which I had kept but not installed.

Installing them seemed to allow the other waiting updates to get through and in fact I had around 12 other important updates including the essential Windows Defender definitions.

Anyway hopefully all well and thanks again for your rapid response .

Thanks Guys I can't find any updates. I took the tick out of micro and optional yonks ago. just kept to important. and let me choose what to install :-(

Plus some fiddling in the " there be demons " part info from this guy: http://www.infoworld.com/article/3020460/microsoft-windows/banishing-get-windows-10-nagware-isnt-as-easy-as-you-think.html but I can't remember what I done now lol sure sign of alzhimers :-(
