seedy21 Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Hi Jim, Sorry to hear your still having issues with this. Lets run this scan to make sure I havent missed anything. Emsisoft Emergency Kit Please download Emsisoft Emergency Kit and save it to your desktop. Double click on the EmsisoftEmergencyKit file you downloaded to extract its contents and create a shortcut on the desktop. Leave all settings as they are and click the Extract button at the bottom. A folder named EEK will be created in the root of the drive (usually c:\). After extraction please double-click on the new Start Emsisoft Emergency Kit icon on your desktop. The first time you launch it, Emsisoft Emergency Kit will recommend that you allow it to download updates. Please click Yes so that it downloads the latest database updates. When update is complete, click Malware Scan. When asked if you want the scanner to scan for Potentially Unwanted Programs, click Yes. Emsisoft Emergency Kit will start scanning. When the scan is completed click Quarantine selected objects. Note, this option is only available if malicious objects were detected during the scan. When the threats have been quarantined, click the View report button in the lower-right corner, and the scan log will be opened in Notepad. Please save the log in Notepad on your desktop and post the contents in your next reply. When you close Emsisoft Emergency Kit, it will give you an option to sign up for a newsletter. This is optional, and is not necessary for the malware removal process. mij Posted January 12, 2017 Author Posted January 12, 2017 Thank you Seedy for the double check with the malware. There was nothing there so I do not know what yandex was on about. The whole screen goes red at the same time - enough to put dread into the strongest of us. Anyway, all is safe. mij Posted January 14, 2017 Author Posted January 14, 2017 Thanks for sticking with this one Seedy, it is proving elusive. I have followed the instructions and posted the results below. I have now connected the Epson expression printer via a USB cable but it wasn't switched on during this test so I don't think it will show. jim. mij Posted January 18, 2017 Author Posted January 18, 2017 Hi Jim. Can you answer for following question:- Do you have any other Internet devices in your house that has the same issue or is it just this computer? Thank you for sticking with this thorny problem. I thought I had answered this quetion, the answer is no. It is just this computer. SWMBO has a Dell Studio One desktop which is on at infrequent times i.e. 11:00 and and 23:00 hours each day and an Ipad that she uses for scrabble in between. Since installing the new router that our provider sent I have lost the ability to print wirelessly. For the time being I am using a cable from the USB port, but that problem we will sort later. seedy21 Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 HI Jim, This seems to be difficult issue to resolve. I think we should try to restore your machine back to previous point in time. I have found a link that describes how to do this in Windows 7. http://www.wikihow.com/Use-System-Restore-on-Windows-7 Thanks Quote “It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything.”― Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club http://www.geekstogo.com/downloads/unite_blue.png Need help with your computer problems? mij Posted January 20, 2017 Author Posted January 20, 2017 I clicked on that link but it didn't open anything. It said something about popups not allowed. I didn't know how to switch that stopper off so I found a 'restore to default' option some where and did that. I had to put in the security key for the new router but that apart veverything seems to function. I did save the important files on a memory stick so I have an up-to-date back-up of those if needs be. Jim. Quote

Jim. I have since had to remove 're-image' of which I know nothing, where did it come from? What does it do? I did remove a re-direct malware of 'MyFilestores.com' which came up with the restore. I got rid of that by removing Firefox and then downloading it again. I have just tried and all seems to be well with you-tube starting. I feel/think it was the re-image or restore thingy, anyway it has caused us a lot of trouble all round. Thanks for all your help, that last restore, and getting rid of the two above seems to have done the trick. I did find out that the router had gone on the blink and because of that the wireless connection to the printer likewise. SWMBO's Dell has the same printer and that has done the same thing. I'll find the right page for the printer help next. Thanks and cheers. Jim Quote
