joddle Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 I have an Acer 5720 running W10 32 bit and have a nagging issue. The PC works fine apart from one thing. Every time I reboot or start up the wifi finds the correct router and wi fi signal but reports no internet despite being connected to the router. If I run the diagnostic it reports a problem with te adapter which it then repairs and then everything is OK - at least until the next time when the same things happens again. I have tried this on two different wifi networks and its always the same thing. The Ethernet works fine. Any ideas as to why this is happening? and any ideas how to cure it? Quote
KenB Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 Hi joddle I had a similar problem a while back - but mine kept dropping out. If I switched the wireless-adapter off - then back on again this seemed to fix it .....until t dropped out again. When you say have tried this on two different wifi networks was this using a different router ? Or were you using the same router to connect to the second network ? The reason I ask is - my problem seemed to be with the routers [ I tried two !! ] I have since gone to fibre and a new router and the problem is now resolved. Do you have a different router to try - especially if the router was the common factor when you tried a different network. You could also try updating the WiFi-Adapter software. https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! You could also try updating the WiFi Adapter software. https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers The router I am using has its own wi fi but is also running a powerline which terminates in another wi fi but the result is the same whichever wifi I use. Switching the wifi on and off does nothing - its only when I right click on the wifi icon and ask it to look for problems that all gets sorted until the next tie. Also in the same house there are two other laptops. One Asus running W10 64 and one running XP but both connect to the either of the wifi links without an issue. Alas the A.cer site seems to have no updated wifi driver (unless I am missing something!) Quote
KenB Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 Hi joddle, Go to Device Manager [ Search > type in ....device manager ... hit Return ] Click on the > next to Network Adapters Is there a yellow exclamation mark next to the WiFi software ? Suggest you make a note of what is listed against WiFi [ the wireless drivers will have "wireless" or "wifi" against what is listed ] Then Right click on the wireless driver You can try "Update Driver" and let it do this automatically If no success select "Uninstall" You will need to reboot. Windows should reinstall the drivers. If not [ unlikely ] then you have a note of what was listed to identify suitable drivers. You could also try [ if we have no luck with the above ] a USB-wireless-adapter. These can be bought quite cheaply. If trying this I would Disable the onboard WiFi-adapter from Device Manager. joddle Posted January 4, 2017 Author Posted January 4, 2017 Maybe its letting the system eco control the wifi!! - turning the option off seems to have done the trick! Quote
KenB Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 You disabled it in Device Manager and it is still working ? Let us know how it goes :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
joddle Posted January 5, 2017 Author Posted January 5, 2017 (edited) You disabled it in Device Manager and it is still working ? Let us know how it goes :) I disabled the bit under the wi fi driver tab which says let it contol the power for ecconomy - and yes its working fine - have rebooted several times just to make sure and so far no failures!!!!:D Edited January 5, 2017 by joddle Quote
