bj43cj47 Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 Hi all, Sometimes I can't always open links & I'm getting this text in a new tab when I click on a link, c.aspx(1x1) or untitled. The sites I am on are trusted sites, (as far as I know) ie Martin Lewis's MSE etc. This seems to be recent issue & am wondering if it's a setting on my laptop that needs to be set, unset? Thanks in anticipation. BeeJay Quote
ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted February 2, 2017 ExTS Admin Posted February 2, 2017 Hi BeeJay You don't say which browser you are using. Also have you tried another browser to see if the problem is still there? What are the links that are giving you problems? I just tried a few links on that site and all seem to be working ok. bj43cj47 Posted February 3, 2017 Author Posted February 3, 2017 Hi Starbuck, I'm always baffled when asked this question? I haven't a clue. I just turn the laptop on in a morning & use it. As for browsers, Google, IE, Google IE, Google Chrome,????????? Techy stuff? no idea. Quote
ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted February 3, 2017 ExTS Admin Posted February 3, 2017 Hi BeeJay Ok, let's do this the easy way. You obviously have to click on an icon to start the browser, which one of these is it? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/iexpl_zpsfgt1omks.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/gchrome_zps5l0rn8c2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/ffox_zpsdzw5yehh.jpg or if you have upgraded to Win10...... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/msedge_zpsjfcwk0vn.png These are the main 4 browsers. bj43cj47 Posted February 3, 2017 Author Posted February 3, 2017 I either click on the Google icon on the bottom browser, or open up my emails on a shortcut I've put on the desktop, or Google Earth. Not being much help am I? It's yonks since I've used photobucket, why have you listed 3 of 'em? Quote
ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted February 3, 2017 ExTS Admin Posted February 3, 2017 I either click on the Google icon on the bottom browser, or open up my emails on a shortcut I've put on the desktop So it's Google Chrome browser that you are using. Internet Explorer will also be installed as it's part of Windows..... try using that and see if you still get those errors. This will tell us if the errors are due to Google Chrome or possibly the actual site. why have you listed 3 of 'em? Because they are the main 3 browsers used. As you wasn't sure which browser you used I put up the main icons so you could pick which one you was using. Quote Member of:UNITE
bj43cj47 Posted February 4, 2017 Author Posted February 4, 2017 Okay, as a "for instance" Going to MSE, via my emails, clicking on the highlighted Valentine offer takes me to the various supermarket stores that are involved, so no problem there. Now going to the Tesco site & clicking on the highlighted links, Tesco, Red or Pink, gets "untitled" in the browser. Now going to the MSE sight using IE (which shows a totally different page set-up, but I can get to the same Tesco offer) now clicking on the same highlighted links, I get in full page format, "This page can't be displayed" Thanks for your time Starbuck. I have another query, but we'll stay with this one for now. :confused2: No pressure then. Quote
bj43cj47 Posted February 4, 2017 Author Posted February 4, 2017 Just another example that I've just had the same problem with. Travelex (money exchange) Clicking on "Check the rates" gets me (er1x1) so that's a 3rd different error with, c.aspx(1x1) or untitled Quote
ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted February 4, 2017 ExTS Admin Posted February 4, 2017 What security software are you running..... would it be Kaspersky by any chance? Quote Member of:UNITE
bj43cj47 Posted February 4, 2017 Author Posted February 4, 2017 Hmmm! that sounds suspicious, but yes it is Kaspersky & I've been running that software for a long time, at least 6yrs with never a problem. I prefer Kaspersky when it comes to banking or any money issues. Quote
ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted February 4, 2017 ExTS Admin Posted February 4, 2017 Seems this isn't the first time it's been happening when Kaspersky has been installed on the system. Maybe a recent update has made it rear it's head again. I found these that all say it's down to Kaspersky: Google Chrome Help Forum Chrome loads a blank page with (1x1) and even one on the Kaspersky forums: websites with just a blank page The key is turning off the "Common Banner List" in the Antibanner section of Kaspersky. when you go to a webpage, files from different servers & domains are loaded, so it could be any one of those blocked entries, or it could be a heuristic anti-banner detection Quote Member of:UNITE
bj43cj47 Posted February 4, 2017 Author Posted February 4, 2017 I've just brought up the Kaspersky icon in the bottom browser. Followed the info to disable the Anti Banner by switching the toggle from on to off, but I don't see anywhere that offers "apply" So I just left it in the off position & then tried the Travelex site again. Still got the error message?? Quote
ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted February 5, 2017 ExTS Admin Posted February 5, 2017 You could try resetting Google Chrome, it may help. To reset Google Chrome Click the Menu option button at the top right of the Google Chrome screen Select Settings. Click Show advanced settings and find the "Reset browser settings” section. Click Reset browser settings. In the dialogue that appears, click Reset. Note: When the "Help make Google Chrome better by reporting the current settings" tick box is selected you are anonymously sending Google your Chrome settings. Reporting these settings allows us to analyse trends and work to prevent future unwanted settings changes. Resetting your browser settings will impact the settings below: Default search engine and saved search engines will be reset and to their original defaults. Homepage button will be hidden and the URL that you previously set will be removed. Default startup tabs will be cleared. The browser will show a new tab when you startup or continue where you left off if you're on a Chromebook. New Tab page will be empty unless you have a version of Chrome with an extension that controls it. In that case your page may be preserved. Pinned tabs will be unpinned. Content settings will be cleared and reset to their installation defaults. Cookies and site data will be cleared. Extensions and themes will be disabled. Quote Member of:UNITE

Gordin bennit Starbuck that's all gobbledegook to me. I'll be speaking to Kaspersky on Tuesday to see what they suggest first & perhaps talk me through any changes they can make. I've also been into their site & un-clicked the Anti-Banner settings to "off" but still no joy. I'll report back on the outcome, hopefully on Tuesday/Wednesday. Quote

bj43cj47 Posted February 7, 2017 Author Posted February 7, 2017 Dear, oh dear, oh dear. What a nightmare. Got through to Kaspersky eventually who sent me details to follow. 2 A4 sheets of sheer gobbledegook arrived, what a joke, the script was, to me, unintelligible. So I ring 'em back, only to be told that the wrong material or summat had been sent? So now I'm told to uninstall Kaspersky & re-install, which in itself was a nightmare. Nothing ever tallies with what they tell you over the 'phone will be needed to be done. Anyway I did the reinstall, rebooted "& prayed" Now I can open the links in emails etc, which was the original problem, but I can no longer access my emails as I used to do, nor get Google chrome, nor fleabay & probably some others I've not tried yet. I now have to go to Hotmail.com & type in my password each time, instead of simply clicking on a shortcut that I'd put on the desktop, even though I've ticked "stay logged in" I just can't figure why it wont accept "create shortcut" even though the text asks me if I want to put a shortcut on my desktop & I click "yes" & gawd knows where GC is. I'd get rid of Kaspersky, but still got 450 days of subscription to go. Quote
bj43cj47 Posted February 8, 2017 Author Posted February 8, 2017 So now this morning, with the defunct shortcut still on the desktop, I click on it expecting it not to function, but it does? So does fleabay & GC. And the links in my emails work. Just placed a low value online order & Kaspersky "Safe money" opened automatically as it should, so it seems all's back to as it should be??? Thanks Starbuck for your help. Quote
