shrimply Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Hi, again Not really sure where to put this but i know someone here will give me an answer. Been looking for a good way to back up my files because if I ever do manage to get them onto disks they tend to get lost, damaged, stood on etc. ( I just can't help it). And if they do remain intact they take up room really don't have. Ideally I would get an external Hard Drive but I don't really have the cash to buy something decent right now. I was looking at online storage, particularly mediamax They offer 25GB free storage which will be plenty for me, but how safe is it, I don't keep anything that personal on my computer, but at the same time I don't really want other people to have access to it without me knowing. Any help is appreciated Quote Keeping Snakes Tips, Advice and info on keeping SnakesClick Here"If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room"
maynardvdm Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Hi I don't know if anyone can know how safe it is, apart from the the guys who run that site :) I think it is a matter of whether you "trust" this site with your data. A external hard drive would be best but is costly as you said, but you will be in control of your data, on the web it is out of your hands. Also hear what the others say about this. Guest Wolfeymole Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Well the site it's self looks ok Shrimply but to me there are for and against issues on this. For: You don't have to buy a new hard drive. There is a good amount of storage space. It's free. Apparently it can be password protected. Against: What if the site goes down when your pc has too? How long will it take to upload and download all your stuff and reinstall it? Non instant accessibility. I really would consider a new hdd and uploading them also. Quote
RandyL Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Hi shrimply; Years ago I came across a site that offered online backup. Veracity was the name. I just checked it out again but it might be defunct. If it is defunct all backups might be lost. However there is still a valid link that explains the importance of different forms of backup. It's also very funny to read while a point is made. The Tao of Backup Click on the tao icon to go to the next page. And so forth. RandyL Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else.
