I was under the impression that regions for DVDs were no longer controlled and that where ever a DVD came from it would play in a modern DVD player.

I have a W7 OS and use VLC as a freeby dvd player (I don't know what happened to WMP, it was here and now it's gone).

I got a DVD from stateside and it says something to the effect that it's the wrong region. Having put in the free software that tells me the region of the player (version 2.00) it tells me that it is region 1 and has four changes left. It has always played any DVD before from stateside so I don't know what is different this time.

Hi Jim

This article may explain why you cannot read the Region 1 DVD - click here

Both Windows and your DVD player check for a region code.

Some DVDs are not assigned a regional code at all - so will play on any DVD player.

Scroll down the article for more information.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

THAT SOLVED IT. Thanks very much, I also found the answer to the PILLIPS 3120 DVD player. SWMBO was not pleased that I upset her CINAMA NIGHT with soaps from 19.30 ( Fridays and Monday nights) but I did get all regions on the DVD player downstairs as well. Any way she has just informed that all is well with her soaps :). Thanks again.

Jim.
