Hi all, I've just got the above to create back up on my Toshiba laptop. Snag is, it all sounded so easy, no installation etc, just plug in & drag required files to the hard drive.

When plugged in to the USB port, I do a quick scan with Kaspersky, no problem. But that's it. I bring up a file, but there's no indication where to drag anything to! Just the file I've selected, no icon for the hard drive etc.

I wont ask for "any ideas" as I know they will be forthcoming, as have been in the past.

But thanks in anticipation.

PS, I'm at present trying to uninstall Malwarebytes as a free test, which has expired, but no matter what I do ie uninstall etc, it stays there. I'm in contact with Kaspersky as it is conflicting with that to try to resolve the issue, & they sent me the link to clean the Malwarebytes out that was from the Malwarebytes own site, but it's still there. I'm waiting for Kaspersky to respond to my last email to them.

Cheers

Hi BeeJay

Regarding MBAM removal:

Download Revo-Uninstaller from here - click here

You want the FREE DOWNLOAD version not the Portable.

Install and run it.

You should see MBAM listed. Click on this to highlight > then click on "Uninstall" on the toolbar at the top.

It may take a few minutes for any action to take place.

It will give you the option to scan for left over files and registry entries.

If you are unsure about any of this then simply leave this option alone. [ or ask :) ]

==================

Does your external drive show up in Disk Management ?

Click on Search [ bottom left of screen ] type in - diskmgmt.msc - hit ENTER

You should see your main drive and any partitions also your DVD drive PLUS the external drive.

I am wondering if the external drive is formatted ??

Does it show as a Disk number ?

Disk 0 will be your main drive [ and any partitions - C: and E: on my image ]

Your DVD Drive is usually D:

My external Flash Drive is showing as Disk 1 - It is formatted [ Fat32 ] and is showing "Healthy"

Yours, if formatted, may say "NTFS"

We need to know :

1 - is it showing in Disk Management

2. - Does it have a Drive Letter [ F: for instance ]

3. - Is it formatted or does it say something like "Raw"

My DVD Drive was shown below the External Drive [Disk 1 ] in my image but was cropped off

Hi Ken, It would seem that I've got rid of the Malwarebytes, although I wasn't sure what the hell I was doing. but ta for that.

Afraid I don't see anything that resembles your link for the hard drive issue.. Typing in the search box "diskmgmt.msc - hit" gives me reams of boxes, with as far as I can see, is gobbledegook.

"diskmgmt.msc - hit"

Type in - diskmgmt.msc ............. nothing else ........then ENTER

You will, of course, need to have the external drive connected.

Hi Ken, Doh! but I did try with & without the er! hit. Anyway, it's showing in disc management , CD-ROM 0, DVD-(E), Toshiba EXT-D NTFS & healthy. I've tried to send a screen shot, but the forum page doesn't seem to allow that. I've realised that to back up to the external hard drive, I just highlight the folder, then "send to" At first I thought the folder had to be opened, then send to, Doh! again.
