jimmyedwards Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Hi to all, I am having a problem with system restore, I don't have any restore points ,so I had to do one and it is all I have. I used to have the PC make a restore point every time it restarted and if I would do a system restore I could pick from different dates. Now there is only the one I made 11-11-17 . Any help on how to restore the old way ,thanks. I am running Windows 8.1 Quote
KenB Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Hi Jimmy, If you have not turned System Restore off and deleted the previous dates it is possible that malware could have done this. If you suspect that this is the case I am sure that Starbuck would take a look at your system for you. If System Restore is turned on then Windows should create a restore point automatically. Take a look here for more information - click here Make sure that System Restore is enabled. I would suggest after doing so that you re-Start the system and check that System Restore is still enabled. ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted November 17, 2017 ExTS Admin Posted November 17, 2017 Hi Jimmy, AS Ken said, check that link for instructions on enabling system restore first. If that doesn't correct the issue, we can look at other possibilities. Quote Member of:UNITE
jimmyedwards Posted November 17, 2017 Author Posted November 17, 2017 Thanks to all I scanned with MBAM and did the steps you showed ,now I have it back like it was. I will check in a few days and see if it has restre points for every day since today. Thanks I believe this is solved. Quote

jimmyedwards Posted November 20, 2017 Author Posted November 20, 2017 I checked back and in System Restore I still am not getting the restore points properly. The first page shows the recommended restore. The second page shows the date for instant restore and a manual restore. The third page shows where I clicked show more restore points and there really aren't any more . The last page is System Properties and Protection. It looks like the PC is not doing the restore points on every restart like before. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance for all help. I tried to attach the screenshots in this email but I cant. How do I clean out the files and attachments I already have used so I can add new attachments? Quote
ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted November 20, 2017 ExTS Admin Posted November 20, 2017 Hi Jimmy, Setting windows to create a restore point everytime the system starts is definitely overkill. By default, Windows won’t create an automatic restore point if another restore point has been created in the last 24 hours. This does not prevent you from creating a manual restore point, and it does not prevent the creation of restore points due to an app or driver installation. Rather, it limits how often Windows creates its own periodic restore points. About once a week would be normal. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-performance/how-often-is-a-restore-point-made/f7cd7917-9167-4067-92c6-aacc2f13ddbe?auth=1 Quote Member of:UNITE
KenB Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Hi Jimmy Take a look at "Configure Restore Settings" Try allocating more disk space. The system will delete older restore points if there is not enough allocated space to store them. How do I clean out the files and attachments I already have used so I can add new attachments? I have over 200 attachments and have never had to delete any. Are you getting a "Full" message ? jimmyedwards Posted November 20, 2017 Author Posted November 20, 2017 Thanks for your help,I just wanted to be able to restore up to a month prior if possible. Before I was able to choose from a longer list of restore points and I think some were more than a month old.Thanks. Quote
jimmyedwards Posted November 20, 2017 Author Posted November 20, 2017 Right now it shows my current usage is 5.52 GB. The message I get is "exceeds your quota by 4.20 MB then it says click here to see your files " I can see all my files ,attachments but I can't delete them. Quote
ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted November 20, 2017 ExTS Admin Posted November 20, 2017 Hi Jimmy, Right now it shows my current usage is 5.52 GB.You mean 5.52MB ( that's what is showing to me ) Admin can remove the attachments for you if you wish. Currently I see 28 attachments going back to 2013. Do you want 2013 - 2016 removed and leave this years? Or do you want them all removed? Quote Member of:UNITE
