KenB Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 Hi Bob, I have attached the image you sent me : You have circled the DISK DRIVES. The DVD CD-ROM is not showing. Try this first: Open up Device Manager again. On the menu bar at the top click on View > Show Hidden Devices Does DVD CD-ROM show up now and if so are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ? Starbuck Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 Are you still using Win7 ?Just butting in here. Bob is running Win10 now. He did have some problems with Win updates and recently had to reinstall Win10. This problem with cd/dvd drives not being recognized seems to be quite common in Win10. Especially after an upgrade or reinstall. These may help. 6 Best Ways to Fix CD/DVD Missing or Not Showing Up in Windows 10 How to Fix a DVD or CD Drive Not Working or Missing in Windows 10 Butting back out now :) Quote Member of:UNITE

bob12a Posted December 21, 2017 Author Posted December 21, 2017 Another option you can try – I notice this works for many users – involves removing and reinstalling the IDE/ATAPI drivers. Launch Device Manager again, click the View menu then click Show hidden devices. Expand IDE/ATAPI Controllers then uninstall each of the following: ATA Channel 0 ATA Channel 1 Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller There might be multiple entries listed for ATA Channel 0, 1 and PCI IDE Controller; uninstall all of them then restart your computer. Windows 10 will detect the drive then reinstall it. https://www.groovypost.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/ide-ata.png Hi Ken and Pete The above help from you both seems to have sorted the no disk found, I had seen it as a remedy(maybe) about 3 days ago but was scared to try it. with the help of you both and others on here I have learned a lot of how to get round my computer over the last few days.
