joddle Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 On just on of my machines - a laptop running W10 64 bit home, a recent update has caused Teamviewer to stop connecting. It gives a message saying the antivirus (Avira Pro) is preventing a connection - this also happens if I try and access the Teamviewer website. Everything else appears to connect fine. All was well just a week ago and I was able to access this PC easily but then there was a W10 update and an Avira update and after that the issue started. Searching the web for a solution appears only to show solutions for older versions of software and I can find nothing relevant to our setup. We have the same AV software on several other machines and they are all working fine but they use W10 pro and not Home - is that a factor??? Not being able to access that particular machine is causing a real problem as its used by my aged mother and I need to access it to help her do things - she being in the UK and me being in Spain. Any ideas? Quote
Richard_T Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Do you use talk talk, or any other company that uses talk talks systems ( ie chess) ? If Talk talk, or a company that uses talk talk as a wholesale network is in the chain, either at the remote end, or the end with the PC then its most likly an issue with talk talk as they are blocking access to Teamviewer see here https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2017/12/uk-isp-talktalk-blocks-popular-internet-vpn-tool-teamviewer.html In my opinion this is somehtig that Talk talk should be working on, blocking a ( useful) tool because phone scammers pretending to be talk talk is not much better than blocking the entire internet as there are scams out there. If you are relying on remote access software it may be worth while having a back up service, I also use Google Chrome remote desktop that can be loaded into the chrome broweser on the remote PC and works in the background Quote
Starbuck Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Hi joddle Seems you're not alone and it's not the first time that Avira has blocked TeamViewer. Avira blocking internet access for TeamViewer program used to remotely access other computers? Avira blocked my teamviewer TeamViewer 9 blocked by Avira Premium Security Suite First link will explain how to changed settings to allow access? In the last link, the poster cured the problem by updating TeamViewer. Quote Member of:UNITE
joddle Posted December 23, 2017 Author Posted December 23, 2017 Thanks RichardT The machine concerned is using TalkTalk so I contacted their customer support but they simply did no understand the issue. They have unblocked the restrictions and say nothing is now blocked (which I could have done myself) but at the moment Teamviewer is still not working nor will the PC connect to their website. When I mentioned Teamviewer itself being blocked to the customer support they did not seem to understand the issue at all! Thanks Starbuck - I did see those issues on the web when trying to find a solution but the advice given does not seem to apply to the latest version of Avira - at least I cannot see how to include and exception as the menus described do not appear in the current version. I only recently updated Teamviewer but as I cant access their web I am unable to even download it again to try a reinstall. Funny thing is that all my other PCs use the same AV software and same edition of Teamviewer and they have no issues at all! Quote

Seems to tally with everything else ive read about this issue, non UK based Customer support failing to understand something that probably isnt on their script. joddle Posted December 23, 2017 Author Posted December 23, 2017 Well it seems TalkTalk did come good in the end. After a reboot the PC now connects up fine to Teamviewer - its just a shame they don't warn people first so they can opt out of a restriction if they so wish before its implemented! Would save a lot of time and aggro! Quote
