nuley Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 Dear friends My main computer is running very slow. Internet is fine via Edge (better than it was with Firefox, actually), but File Explorer is almost not running at all, and copying photos from a memory stick to external hard drive is taking about 1 hour for 200 pics. I don't know if this is because my computer is just too old, or it occurred to me that maybe my anti-virus software doesn't like Defender? I've got Eset antivirus plus Defender - though I don't actually know if they're doing different things at the moment. Here's the computer info: Is there anything I can do to speed things up, please? Thank you as ever! Nuley Quote
nuley Posted March 7, 2018 Author Posted March 7, 2018 PS. I've tried to check whether everything is up to date with Windows, but I can't get the office updates to install properly. I notice it's wanting to install 32-bit stuff. Is that as it should be or is it an issue? Quote
KenB Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 Hi I've got Eset antivirus plus Defender This is probably your problem. Our security team do not advise running two AVs as they will often conflict and slow things down. If ESET is up to date then turn Defender off and try your system again. ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted March 7, 2018 ExTS Admin Posted March 7, 2018 Version 1709 So you're on the 'Fall Creators Update'. This update has been a bit of a disaster for M$ since it was released. A few people I know have even had to reinstall Windows 10 because of it. This is the latest problem..... Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB4090913 Fails to Install, Causes Other Issues Like Ken said, you should disable Windows Defender and just run Eset.... but it may be the update itself that's causing the problem. How long has the system been like this? Quote Member of:UNITE
