I am using a Thomson TG585V7 router supplied by my ISP when i signed up several years ago.I also have a Sagecom 2704n router supplied by the ISP when i changed product.I use the Thomson as it is currently installed. I have a desktop connected and a laptop connecting via wireless. They are both working ok but I was wondering if changing the router would improve my internet download/upload speeds.I have looked at new routers but it is very confusing with the amount info that is used. I am not that computer savvy but get by! Could someone suggest a better router that might improve things and more importantly easy to instal.

To me this would depend on the age of the modem, the speeds I am paying for compared to the speed I am getting, renting the modem or purchased.

Thanks for the reply Rustys. I have run a speed test and checked with my ISP and find my speeds are within what my current product should supply. So it seems i have to change my product to improve my speeds. Thanks again.

When was the last time the Modem was power cycled?

Is this a modem router in one unit or a separate modem and router?

If separate then you will need to power cycle both of them.

1. Turn them modem and router off.

2. Turn on the modem let it finish flashing the lights where they show it is completely on and ready to go.

3. Turn on the router (if there is one) wait for it to finish and show completely on.

4. Connect ad runt the speed test again see if there are any improvements.

The router/moden in use is a Thomson TG585v7. I assume it is a combined unit. The last time the unit was powered off was a couple of days ago when my internet connection was lost.

Yes it is a combined unit.

Let us know if you need any help setting up the new modem.
