Bringe Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 Hi Everyone. I have a couple of usb sticks that for some reason when I plug them in it sometimes shows up in "my computer" for a split second and then disappears. Then I get the egg timer as the cursor and I cant do anything until I remove the usb stick. Then the pc goes back to normal. I have other usb sticks that work perfectly but these two give this problem. I think they may be corrupt as I think I may have removed them while they were still open. Apart from throwing them in the bin, has anyone any ideas to try to get them to work?? Many Thanks. Bringe. Quote
KenB Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 Hi, Can you try them in another machine? If so - do you get the same result ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
Bringe Posted November 13, 2018 Author Posted November 13, 2018 Hi KenB. Thanks for your reply. I do have another PC, its the one that had XP on it and I managed to upgrade it to windows 7 ultimate. I have tried these 2 USB sticks in it and the drive shows up in "computer" for a split second and then disappears, but the cursor still works. By wiggling and fiddling with the USB stick I managed to get the drive to show up in "computer" but if I click on it, it doesn't open up and if I right click on it I get a menu, but clicking on "format" nothing happens. I found these instructions relating to the "C" prompt for XP... diskpart list disk select disk clean create partition primary format fs= fat32 quick I tried these instructions on windows 7 but it didn't work. I have included some pics to give you an idea of whats happening. Although the drive is showing in "computer" I dont know if the PC is seeing it?? Kind Regards. Bringe. Quote
KenB Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 (edited) Hi With the drive plugged in .... Start - type in .... dskmgmt.msc ...... then hit Return You will see something like this .. Disk 0 is usually your main drive. You have another partition [ D: ] which should show up. Your USB Drive with the memory stick in MAY show up if it is recognised. This may be F: What do you see ? Rustys Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 In order to use Diskpart it has to be ran on an elevated command prompt. Quote "Confucius could give answer to that. Unfortunately, Confucius not here at moment.”
Bringe Posted November 13, 2018 Author Posted November 13, 2018 Hi Rustys. Please can you explain what is an "elevated command prompt" Sorry for being stupid. Many Thanks. Bringe. Quote
ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted November 13, 2018 ExTS Admin Posted November 13, 2018 (edited) Hi Bringe, Please can you explain what is an "elevated command prompt" Sorry for being stupid. Nothing stupid about not knowing something .... we've all been there. See if this helps. For Win XP, you simply need to open Command Prompt to access diskpart: Click >> Start Click >> Run Type in >> cmd Press Enter key or click OK At the Command Prompt window, type in diskpart Press Enter Accessing Diskpart on Win 7 is slightly different.
