madon37s Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 Hi all, I could do with some help please, ever time I start my computer up I get this window up called STEAM that keeps saying it's updating but I can't do anything on the computer until it stops doing it's thing! It comes from a computer game called Train Simulator 2017 if that helps at all. Can anyone help with stopping this program from automatically updating itself please. I have tried restoring the computer to an earlier time but it just won't go away. I also have another problem that seems to have appeared today, I can't seem to get Google Chrome to keep my yahoo mail inbox page as my default page although it is in my internet options as the default page on my computer! Any help on these matters will be very much appreciated. Quote
KenB Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 (edited) Hi Start - type in ..... msconfig .... hit Return Click on "Startup" Look down the list to see if "Steam" is listed [ it may be named differently but recognisable from "Train Simulator." ] If it is there untick the box and click OK You will need to reboot. See if this helps. Edited November 16, 2018 by KenB 1 Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Rustys Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 I do not know if this will help or not found on an old thread on the Steam Forum. Maybe something in there will help. Steam updates every time I turn on my computer and Why does Steam Client keep updating? I also have another problem that seems to have appeared today, I can't seem to get Google Chrome to keep my yahoo mail inbox page as my default page although it is in my internet options as the default page on my computer! If you were to change it to a different site does it keep that information. Then change it back and see if it holds. Quote "Confucius could give answer to that. madon37s Posted November 17, 2018 Author Posted November 17, 2018 Hi Ken, Great advice thanks that has done the trick . Can I ask though I seem to have two AVG programs on that start up list and was wondering if I need them both on it? Hi Rustys, Every time I turn the computer on and click onto the Google Chrome icon for internet browsing my Yahoo. mail page always came up first which is how I have had it (and always want it) but for some reason now (and I don't know why tbh) every time I click to go on the internet using GC it just comes up with the normal GC search window. Glad that worked out ok for you :) Regarding 2 entries for AVG - This is probably ok. [ I don't use AVG ] Presumably both are ticked? If there are no problems with AVG starting I would leave well alone :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! madon37s Posted November 17, 2018 Author Posted November 17, 2018 Hi Ken, Yes both are ticked so I will leave well alone as you suggested. Still can't work out why my Yahoo mail account doesn't automatically appear as it used to do when I open my Google browser though  Quote
KenB Posted November 17, 2018 Posted November 17, 2018 Hi Regarding Chrome... Try re-setting Chrome. Click the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar. [ This will be on the far right after the address bar ] Select Settings. Click Show advanced settings and find the "Reset browser settings” section. Click Reset browser settings. In the dialog that appears, click Reset. Now set your email address as the default. See if this does it. 1 Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
