mij Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 Hi folks. I have tried the methods suggested using google but those have not worked. I have uninstalled their picture/photo software but the one they have used is not obvious and I have been unsuccessful. I've tried the 'default' way of choosing the program to use to open the image both in W10 and in irfanview but it switches back to the program they want you to use again. Very frustrating. Jim. Quote
KenB Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 Hi, Have you tried ... Right click on a photo Properties A box will open and there should be "Opens With" and "Change" Click on the down arrow and select the option that you want. Then click OK> You will need to do this with other file types [ .jpg - .png - etc ] Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! mij Posted November 21, 2018 Author Posted November 21, 2018 Thanks KenB for returning to this one. Yes I tried that as that was suggested online. It reverted back immediately to the W10 preferred image program. Jim. Quote
KenB Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 (edited) Silly question Jim - did you click the OK button ? Also try Select an image > right click > Properties > Security > Click on your name Do you have full control ? Are any of the boxes unchecked ? ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted November 21, 2018 ExTS Admin Posted November 21, 2018 Hi Jim I can understand your frustration ....... this is a common problem with Win 10. There's only one way that has worked for me...... I take it you have your preferred picture/photo software installed? Click Start >> Settings >> Apps >> Default Apps Ignore the normal way of changing the default app (which doesn't work anyway) Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Set Defaults by App. From the list of installed Apps, select your preferred picture/photo software program. Then click Manage when the box opens. When the list of file types opens..... You'll have to manually change the photo/picture file types one at a time (jpg, jpeg etc ) from the Microsoft default to your preferred default. Click on the program listed as default .... a list will open. Select your preferred program. The default program should now change. This is the only way that's worked for me. Quote Member of:UNITE
mij Posted November 23, 2018 Author Posted November 23, 2018 Yay. that seems tp have worled :). Thanks very much. It did not like the change but the W10 lap top gets slow and the sound distorts after about an hour whilst playing you tube videos. I have to leave it about a minute to catch up with the keyboard. ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted November 25, 2018 ExTS Admin Posted November 25, 2018 What picture/photo software are you now using? Quote Member of:UNITE
mij Posted November 26, 2018 Author Posted November 26, 2018 The same because it is my favourite price. Irfanview for diminishing the pixels and/or editing. I see lots of peeps have difficulties diminshing the pixels in an image and they frequently go to an image hosting site to save space on their forum. Irfanview does it for free. Free to download and free to use. Jim. PS I forgot to add that one needs to download the appropriate plug-ins to go with the version of irfanview, 32bit or 64bit. Quote
ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted November 28, 2018 ExTS Admin Posted November 28, 2018 That is one piece of software that I have no knowledge of at all. Quote Member of:UNITE
mij Posted November 29, 2018 Author Posted November 29, 2018 I have used it exlusively for all images as it allows peeps to choose pixels, cm or inches. Also to keep the correct aspect ratio. I am used to the largest dimension being 800 pixels and was surprised by the fact an image can be reduced to 15 or so Kb from 3/4 Mb without detriment to the image. Some degredation may be noticeable where a pattern is invovled. Very worthy of a try-out. I have lately heard that "Paint" ( included in Windows) can do a similar job. Jim Quote
