No F11 Option.

Hi Everyone. I have an old HP desktop pc running windows XP. It has got so cluttered over the years and takes ages to boot up.

I am wanting to reset it back to factory settings. I know everyone says hit the F11 key te reset it, but, there is no F11 option

on the screen as it passes by.

I went to "compmgmt.msc" and then into "disk management" and it shows the whole drive is disk C: there is no partition with

any recovery programs/software.

 

I have a friend who also has an HP desktop pc running XP. On his pc, going to "compmgmt.msc" and "disk management"

shows the disk drive C: but has a partition labelled "HP_RECOVERY"

So the question is, Is it possible to somehow copy his partition labelled "HP_RECOVERY" and Install it into my pc so

letting me factory reset my old pc???

Any help or ideas about this problem will be gratefully received.

Hey @Bringe you will not see anything on the screen for the F11.

 

You can also refer to the users manual online at the HP site. It may not be the F11 key that is used it may be a different key or key combination.

 

It is like press the F8 to access Safe Mode all that you have to do is while the system is booting is tap the F11 key and it will take you through the process.

No, that is the recovery partition is for another system which will include the drives for that other system and not yours. Basically it is a compressed image of the original computer setup and configuration.

Have you tried defragging and cleaning out some of the space?

Run a Check Disk?

Windows XP was released in 2001.

Extended support for Windows XP ended on April 8, 2014.

Windows XP is remotely exploitable by numerous security holes that were discovered after Microsoft stopped supporting it.

It's not a system that can be used safely.

 

A lack of software support can create security problems.

Just assume someone is on your PC while you're working.

Every password, trade secret and bit of personal information is at risk."

Is it still safe to use Windows XP?

Thanks for your replies. I tried tapping the F11 key on startup but didn't do anything. Its not really important that I get it back to

factory settings, Its only an old pc anyway, but I like a challenge, and when I cant solve something it really cheeses me off!!

I did do a defrag on it, it took 2 days. After that I checked the defrag again and it still said "you should defrag this volume" I did it

4 times!!!

I guess it could well be time to put it on antiques roadshow or the council dump.

If you are wanting to use that system depending on what is in it and how good the hardware is might also suggest using Linux.
