Mystery message

Hi all

Sometimes when shutting down my desk top PC windows 8.1 this message appears on my desktop screen 'the instruction at Ox8007cfo reference memory at Ox8007cfo The memory could not be written.Click OK to terminate the program'

I can easily get rid of the message by clicking 'end programme' but it's annoying as I have to stand over my PC and wait to see if the message appears

Hi Ray,

 

Start > type in ......cmd ....and right click on the Command Prompt box that appears

Click on "Run as Administrator"

 

At the Command Prompt type ... sfc /scannow .... hit Enter

 

This will scan system files and replace any damaged ones that it finds

When I go onto command prompt box (black with white letters) and right click it does not give me the option to click on run as administrator or any other of the instructions you suggest all there is is a list 'paste select all, scroll, find

Here is a link that will give you other options to open the Run command on Windows 8. See if you can get to that context menu to Run as Administrator using one of the tips on that page.

The quick way to access Command Prompt run as Admin in Win8 ( and Win10 ) is....

Right-click on the Start button... this will bring up the Windows Quick Access Menu.

You can select Command Prompt (Admin) from there.

Thanks to all of you who have tried to help me with this.

However I'm not getting anywhere!

You mention the 'start button Pete but on my desktop I can't locate it (must sound a bit dim!) ATM I'm at dead end.

The Start button is always in the same place on a system.

Not to try and confuse you too much Ray, but I do know that on Win10, M$ have changed the Command Prompt system for the Powershell system.

Not too sure if they bought this in for Win8 though.

Works the same, it's just that the Powershell system is a bit more powerful and versatile.

You might also try pressing the Windows Key + X

which should bring up the same menu in both Eight and Ten.

Indeed windows key+X brings up command prompt but whatever I type in gets same reply 'this is not recognised as an internal or external command

Also you are putting a space between the sfc and /scannow?

When

C:\Windows\system32>

 

comes on screen, are you adding sfc /scannow after it?

 

this is what it should look like.....

 

C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

 

Then click the Return/Enter button on the keyboard.

Hi Pete strangely the problem has stopped of it's own accord so while it stays that way will leave it be (won't fix what ain't broken!) lol

But will keep your latest advice in mind if we have a relapse.
