ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted February 9, 2019 ExTS Admin Posted February 9, 2019 The quick way to access Command Prompt run as Admin in Win8 ( and Win10 ) is.... Right-click on the Start button... this will bring up the Windows Quick Access Menu. You can select Command Prompt (Admin) from there. Quote Member of:UNITE
PEV Posted February 10, 2019 Author Posted February 10, 2019 Hi Pete A belated happy new year to you. Thanks to all of you who have tried to help me with this. However I'm not getting anywhere! You mention the 'start button Pete but on my desktop I can't locate it (must sound a bit dim!) ATM I'm at dead end. Ray Quote
ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted February 10, 2019 ExTS Admin Posted February 10, 2019 You mention the 'start button Pete but on my desktop I can't locate it The Start button is always in the same place on a system. Quote Member of:UNITE
ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted February 10, 2019 ExTS Admin Posted February 10, 2019 Not to try and confuse you too much Ray, but I do know that on Win10, M$ have changed the Command Prompt system for the Powershell system. Not too sure if they bought this in for Win8 though. Works the same, it's just that the Powershell system is a bit more powerful and versatile. Quote Member of:UNITE
Rustys Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 You might also try pressing the Windows Key + X which should bring up the same menu in both Eight and Ten. Quote "Confucius could give answer to that. Unfortunately, Confucius not here at moment.”
PEV Posted February 10, 2019 Author Posted February 10, 2019 Hi Rustys Indeed windows key+X brings up command prompt but whatever I type in gets same reply 'this is not recognised as an internal or external command Quote
Rustys Posted February 11, 2019 Posted February 11, 2019 That is not cool. It may help if you posted a screen shot of the command prompt screen. Quote "Confucius could give answer to that. Unfortunately, Confucius not here at moment.”
PEV Posted February 11, 2019 Author Posted February 11, 2019 Hi Rustys Don't now if this helps? Ray Quote
Rustys Posted February 11, 2019 Posted February 11, 2019 It does thank you. Can you post one with the error message too please. Also you are putting a space between the sfc and /scannow? Quote "Confucius could give answer to that. Unfortunately, Confucius not here at moment.”
ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted February 11, 2019 ExTS Admin Posted February 11, 2019 Hi Ray, When C:\Windows\system32> comes on screen, are you adding sfc /scannow after it? this is what it should look like..... C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow Then click the Return/Enter button on the keyboard. Quote Member of:UNITE
PEV Posted February 16, 2019 Author Posted February 16, 2019 Hi Pete strangely the problem has stopped of it's own accord so while it stays that way will leave it be (won't fix what ain't broken!) lol But will keep your latest advice in mind if we have a relapse. Thanks Ray Quote
