AdvancedSetup Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 I believe he has tried just about everything already that is easy to do without someone with experience physically being at the keyboard to work on it. As long as all the data is safely backed up then a CD Restore should go smooth with prompts as needed along the way from the MFG. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Tony D Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 I would try the XP Repair first as it won't delete programs, data files, settings, etc. If that doesn't work, then do a full reformat and install. Seth Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Just a note here... You said that "Window's can't configure the wireless network". That's because Dell uses their own wireless utility. If the Dell wireless utility isn't in the system tray, then go into the properties of the Window's utility and choose to use it to configure the wireless. Quote Need help with your computer problems? CVicious Posted March 13, 2008 Author Posted March 13, 2008 I believe he has tried just about everything already that is easy to do without someone with experience physically being at the keyboard to work on it. Truer words have never been spoken. Well, I did try the repair option first (on "accident") but still didn't feel comfortable. Namely because prior to signing in to a fully-working OS, SnoopFree Privacy Shield warned me of a keylogger being attached to the notebook (I forgot to jot down the name of the culprit). So, since I had already copied needed files (which were scanned for malware with several programs) to CDs, I fully formatted and reinstalled XP. Everything made mention of earlier as not functioning, is now working fine: sound, the Mini PC Card (and thus internet connection), and visually quicker loading/processing. I really appreciate all the assistance provided during this time-consuming problem. Take care and thank you again! Quote
