ongarbob Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 I cannot print a picture from my picture store...any ideas why not ?? A signal flashes up about printer cannot communicate but it is only visible for a second and I cannot read that quickly. Quote
KenB Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 Hi and welcome to ExTS Is it just this one specific picture? Can you print other files / images ? Is this on a Win7 machine as per your profile ? ongarbob Posted May 9, 2019 Author Posted May 9, 2019 Thank you, Ken, for your reply. I can print other things OK...it is just pictures. I presume Win7 means Windows 7 in which case Yes. Quote
KenB Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 Hi, You don't say how you are attempting to print the images. Do you open them in Photo Viewer for instance - then select "Print" from there ? Can you right click on the image and select a different software to open it with? [ other than the problem software ] Can you simply right click on the image and select "Print" - does that work ? ongarbob Posted May 11, 2019 Author Posted May 11, 2019 Many thanks....I opened "Pictures" and then the modify page and tried to print from there with no success. Your suggestion of right clicking into another programme ( Office) worked and it printed but I would still like to know what I am doing wrong. Quote
KenB Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 .I opened "Pictures" and then the modify I am assuming that "Pictures" is the Windows folder - am I correct ? Normally to print a picture from here you would double click on it It then opens in the default software From here you can select "Print" If you are modifying [ Editing ] a photo depending upon the particular software, there may not be an option to print from here. ongarbob Posted May 13, 2019 Author Posted May 13, 2019 I still can't print direct from my Pictures but if I go into Office I can !!! So if you call that solved...OK. Thanks again. RH. Quote
KenB Posted May 13, 2019 Posted May 13, 2019 If you right click on an image in the "Pictures" folder "Print" should be an option. Can you print an image this way ? ongarbob Posted May 15, 2019 Author Posted May 15, 2019 Ken, in my very first plea for help I mentioned that occasionally a message flashes up to say something like..." programme cannot communicate with.........." and then it disappears. It is too quick to read and only fladhes up now and then. Any ideas what that can be. It may solve the problem. RH. Quote

ongarbob Posted May 17, 2019 Author Posted May 17, 2019 It must be...but how do we solve that ? Not a wireless printer. It is an HP Deskjet 1050 all in one J410 series. Quote
KenB Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 If the computer cannot communicate with the printer it could be the printer cable. Try disconnecting it - then re-connect. Try a different USB port. I doubt that this will make any difference as you say that you can print from Office. It is worth a try. Try this. Open a new folder on the Desktop. [ right click on the Desktop > New ] Then ... Open "Pictures" folder and copy a few images [ hold CTRL down and click on the images to highlight ] then CTRL + C to copy. Go to the new Desktop folder and Paste the copied images. [ CTRL + V ] Now try right click on an image > Print Any luck ?? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! KenB Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 Very Odd. Check this for me please: Right click on one of the images in "Pictures" > Click on "Properties" > then "Security" Does it look like this? i.e. You have full control Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! ongarbob Posted May 22, 2019 Author Posted May 22, 2019 Yes it looks like that with none of the ticks lit up. RH. Quote
KenB Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 (edited) No ticks means no permissions. You should have "Full Control" etc ticked if you are the Admin on the computer. I have just tried this and it works for me. [ saves doing it manually ] Download a small piece of software from here - click here Click on the line that says ...... Download TakeOwnershipEx allows you to get full access to files and folders [ NOT any of the green buttons ] Bottom left of screen select -OPen when done- when downloading [ this is quite quick ] You will need to click on the compressed file and open it. Click on the Win8 option [ this is OK for Win 10 ] Install the software. Go back to the "Pictures" folder and right click on it. [ the actual folder - not a photo icon ] Click on "Take Ownership" You should get a message telling you that this has been done Try printing a picture again Edited May 24, 2019 by KenB Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! ongarbob Posted May 25, 2019 Author Posted May 25, 2019 Thank you, Ken. Followed all the way until "you should get a message...".....my message said " invalid command " Help !!! Quote
KenB Posted May 25, 2019 Posted May 25, 2019 Was the option to "Take Ownership" there when you right clicked on the "Pictures" folder? Presumably from your comment it was. Can you open "Pictures" and right click on an individual image - take ownership of that. See what happens. ongarbob Posted May 26, 2019 Author Posted May 26, 2019 Hi....first para..YES. second para...I get a message saying "Windows Explorer has stopped working. " Quote
KenB Posted May 26, 2019 Posted May 26, 2019 Did you "Take Ownership" of the image in "Pictures" or did you get the "....stopped working" message afterwards when you tried to print? Take a look here - click here Scroll down to option 2 Give this a try Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! ongarbob Posted May 27, 2019 Author Posted May 27, 2019 Option 2 was interesting...when I ticked the requested box all the pictures in the folder were hidden by a flower so I couldn't identify which picture was which !!!! Quote
KenB Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 Did you try printing one ? Follow Option 2 again and remove the tick against "always show icons ........" Just to confirm ........ Right click on "Pictures" folder ..... then click on ....Properties ....... Security ... Do you have permissions - or are there still no ticks under "Allow" ?
