Just a quick note today.. Wanted to let you know I do realize the futility of all things mentioned until I dust out the computer from the inside.. With that in mind, I took it apart earlier today and blew the hell out of everything I saw dusty inside.. Per a good buddy who knows of things like this,he said I should take a picture first just in case something came unplugged.. Thankfully that did not happen.. As a side note.........before I cleaned it, I had the computer on for maybe 3 hours at that point, and noticed I had been disconnected from my browser.. Thought that was a good time to do a SpeedFan check.. See attached for that reading! I am now waiting patiently to see how things go post cleanOut.. Hoping for the best.. Thanks to you all for your help so far! I'm hoping the cleaning will fix the problem.. Have a great weekend...!

Hi

Temperatures have risen and as a consequence so have the fan speeds.

Not sure which CPU / Motherboard you have [ doesn't really matter ] but when the temps get too high [ varies with CPU / M-Board ] the system will shut down.

If you had not been stressing the CPU the temps should have stayed similar to the first image.

As they have risen there has to be a reason.

Dust [ already mentioned ] is a primary cause. [ however, 2 - 3 hours is a long time ......normally the temps would rise in a shorter period than this ]

Secondly, you mentioned earlier that the tower is wedged into a narrow space, there needs to be air circulating inside the case.

This cools the CPU etc.

This hot air needs to be able to escape.

Pay particular attention to the vents and make sure that they are not blocked.

Hi friends I have not been around on here of late but I had to tell you this one to go with skyclads problem.

Pluss I am chuffed with my self.

About a week ago I kept getting the BSD and The black one as well all this and a funny sound from my PC. All this happened after inside the first 30 seconds of switching on. Also a message no HDMI connection

You would not believe the apps I removed oh and put them back again.

Long story short after about 3 days flapping about I wondered if anything was visible in the pc case.

Why Why Why did my 80 year old brain NOT do this first.

the answer 3 small cables wrapped round the spotless CPU fan tied them back with plastic tie all running fine now.

I wanted to check in regarding he above problem which I've not commented on in several days.. That is all because I'm now having issues with the "start button" on my computer, or something related to it.. (typing this now from gFriend's computer).. On top of what has already been described, I began noticing issues trying to get back online after being booted off.. That was no problem previously, at least not in an immediate way.. Now the following happens.... I push the button, nothing happens immediately at first but there is now a delay of five to ten seconds in coming on.........then it goes off on it's own.........then after five to ten seconds, comes back on........on it's own ad infinitum!! Decided to just unplug the thing, as it was no doubt not good for the computer.. Amazing..

I told my friend of this problem (who was my local tech guy) and he said he has seen this before, and always had to do with a startButton issue of some sort.. Problem is, my friends no longer lives in town but hours away.. He will be coming though "probably in the next week or two".......:/ !!! Looks like it might be time for a tech fast, voluntary or not.... Will be back with you as soon as I can sort all this out... More later, and again thanks for all your help.. Let's keep this thread open....:)

Hello to my FreePCHelp friends....!

I've been in a digital wasteland for quite awhile now.. I thank you for keeping this thread open..

I wanted to fill you guys in on the latest here.. My friend finally arrived to fix the start button issue.. He said that it pretty much fixed itself as he was moving wires, etc. around......... and that it behaved as if there was possibly a short somewhere, or maybe a loose connection (I'm now wondering if I did this while blowing out the computer earlier).. Anyway, after fixing things here he checked back in later via phone to see if things were still up and running, which they were at that point.. Of course that evening, the computer overheated again, so I'm back to square one.. I did mention the overheating issue to him while he was here.. After looking inside, he said that it looked like things were pretty clean now, with the exception of one particular fan...........which he said needed to be taken out and blown out as well.. No problem, as all you have to do is remove 4 screws.. Well, I'm a bit on edge about opening up the computer again since the last time I did it I suddenly had the "start button" problem........something I'd never seen before..

At this point I'm going to begin executing the things you guys suggested about moving my computer to a location where it would get better ventilation.. I'm moving forward with "baby steps" here right now.. As far as current performance, things go well as long as I don't have multiple pages open and running.. Also, I now get offLine when the computer is not being used.........including overnight.. So far, no problems, but I'd like to address that fan issue at some point..

Will let you know how things are as they progress...........and as always, please feel free to make suggestions on anything above... I can always use your help!

Thanks again...

Hello to my friends at FreePCHelp..!

I was thinking earlier today of my situation overall with this computer.. Many things to consider, no doubt.. I do want to mention that at the very beginning of all this, there was a Windows Update that was attempted the night before everything went south.. I'm wondering if there is a setting change I could engage on my computer that would prevent installation of these things automatically, but maybe get my permission first before installing.. Is that an option? If so, please let me know how to do this.. The "update" that was attempted I believe was a failed install of Windows 10.. I do realize this topic is a double edged sword so to speak.. I simply would like to know before things are installed, especially given all that has gone on since this last "update".. Please let me know about this.. Much more info to come regarding the further cleaning of the fan, etc..... Thanks again for all your help!

If this is a Win7 system, then yes this is quite easy.

Click Start >> Control Panel >> Windows Update

On the left hand side, click on Change Settings

Under Important Updates, use the drop down arrow to change the option to Check for updates buy let me choose whether to download and install them.

UnTick the other options.

Click OK at the bottom.

Hello to all at FPCHelp...! I wanted to let you know that I've done some reArranging of the location of my computer where it seems to be getting better ventilation and running cooler these days.. I attached a pic of the SpeedFan readings that are currently happening after the machine has been on for hours, but keeping minimal windows open (don't want to press my luck at this point..).. Please let me know if these readings are within an acceptable range... Thanks again for your help!

I'll let @KenB answer that, he knows more about these things than I do.
