Hello all. :)

So recently I was watching a film on my computer (using my computer) then I get a notification from one drive that power saving mode has been enabled, so being smart (or so I thought) I plugged my charger into my computer. The screen immediately went blank.. So assuming somehow I had turned it off I went to turn it on. Unplugged the charger.. Plugged back in.. Then I noticed the charging LED was not lit up..

Assuming that maybe it's the charger I go to a store to try another charger, they plugged it in and nothing.. Then of course here comes the sales pitch. Since this, the computer has been sitting around..

tl;dr Plugged in my charger and computer won't start.

To note:

I can't smell any kind of smoke, by battery or inside the actual computer)

Charger makes a kinda static noise when ear placed next to the box.. (Plugged in or not)

Hi and welcome to ExTS

I get a notification from one drive that power saving mode has been enabled

I assume that the battery was running low on charge ?

Try this :

Assuming that you can access the battery ......

Remove the charging lead.

Remove the battery.

Plug in the charger again and try to boot up.

Do you get anything at all ?

If not ......

Take the laptop into a darkened room

Switch on and listen carefully for the hard drive spinning up.

Is it ?

Look carefully at the screen.

Do you see a feint image?

If so it is the screen that is the problem. [ Inverter possibly ]

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

Thanks for a quick reply.

Hi again

So ....

It will not boot up with the battery out.

There is no indication that the hard drive is spinning [ assuming it is not a solid state drive ]

There is no feint image on screen

One more thing to try .........

If you can access the RAM [ sometimes under a panel in the base of the machine ] ......

Remove it and try booting up again.

The machine will not boot up without the RAM but you may get some reaction.

If you DO get something happening and if you have 2 RAM modules - try them just one at a time.

I've removed the RAM, nothing different (nothing turns on)

Btw, the hard drive is a SSD

Sounds like you have a motherboard problem. :(

One more thing to try - - -

If you have a monitor connect this to the laptop and see if you get any response when you attempt to boot up.

The fact that the charging LED isn't lit seems to confirm that there is a problem on the motherboard.

I go to a store to try another charger, they plugged it in and nothing..

This is further evidence that there is a problem on the motherboard.

If it was a battery problem then the laptop would boot up when you took the battery out and tried to run off mains alone.

It is not a charger problem as you have tried two - one new one.

It doesn't seem to be a RAM problem either.

I suspect that it is the charging circuit on the motherboard that has died.

One last thing that you can try ...........

Connect the charger to the laptop and jiggle the connection to see if you get the charging LED to come on.

It could be a bad connection at the socket.
