External DVD burner and external DVD player no longer work

First of all I must thank KENB, for helping me the last time I asked for help. I don't know if this is for you KENB? But here goes. Yesterday morning I was using both my external DVD burner and player. Burner is a LITEON and player is a compact disc re-writable dvd rom. Come yesterday afternoon, when I wanted to use them again, my computer just would not recognize both! There is always a symbol C or D but nothing. I tried the "A NEW DEVICE" from 1 to 0, but still no good. Does anyone know what happened and can it be fixed please?

Have you tried disconnecting the drives and then reconnecting them back to the system?

you don't seem to be having much luck with DVD drives do you ? :)

 

Two different drives not being recognised - could be linked to the USB port itself.

 

1. Do you have another USB device that you can try - to see if that works. Also - try a different USB Port.

If it does then it is unlikely to be the USB port.

 

2. Can you try the DVD Drive in another computer to see if it is recognised?

 

3. Plug one of the devices in to the USB port.

Then type into the Search box [ bottom left of screen] devmgmt.msc and hit Enter

 

You are now in Device Manager

At the bottom look for "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" and click the > next to it.

You should see something like this:

 

Are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ?

 

Also click the > next to "Disk Drives" [near the top of the alphabetical list of devices]

Is the DVD Drive showing there?

What is "troublesome" ?

 

Also -

Your profile says that your location is USA

Your IP Address has shown USA - Canada - UAE - China

You either get about a lot or you are using a proxy.

Why do you find it necessary to change IP Address constantly ?
