Hi all,

Can anyone help please?

I have moved my computer and monitor to a newly decorated room and now the LG monitor just shows a black screen. I had shut the computer down properly before disconnecting and moving it just 20 minutes before!

The computer starts up as normal with the typical windows sound as the program comes to the logging on screen but the monitor only shows the yellow stanby light and a window comes on the monitor just saying "power saving mode".

I have tried using another power lead for the monitor and another VGA lead but the symptoms are exactly the same...

Does anyone know what has happened please?

Check to make sure that you are plugged in to the proper port. Something may have came loose during the move. Here are a few things to check while waiting for others to post.

If the system has a display card make sure you are plugged into that and not the mother board.

Check to make sure that the display card is secure by removing it an re seating it into the slot.

While in there make sure all the cables are attached securely.

In addition to what Rustys has suggested ......

Unplug the power lead from the wall socket.

When you take the display card out clean the copper contacts with a pencil eraser - then reseat it.

Some systems do not have an actual video [ display] card - these systems have an onboard chip which cannot be taken out.

When you are inside the case - take out the RAM module too.

Clean the contacts with the pencil eraser and replace.

Locate the CMOS battery. [ round silver battery ]

Take this out for 30 seconds then replace.

The + should be showing on top.

If your date and time were incorrect before the problem started - replace this battery.

Put the side panel back in place - plug in and switch on.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

Hi Rustys and KenB,

Many thanks for your help and advice on my problem. I am pleased to say that after doing what was suggested (and vacuuming inside the tower) the monitor now works as it should.

Many thanks again, I really appreciate all your help.
