Pretty much as the heading above. I am so used to W7 that the lap-top with W10 has me stymied. What do I do to get them on the desk-top of the lap-top? If I download them they disappear.

Where are you looking for the downloaded files?

Hi Jim

If you have downloaded them then they should be showing in the "Downloads" folder.

Click on this icon - bottom of the Desktop page

Downloads should be on the left hand side.

======================

If you download software - like a browser for instance - then keep an eye on the bottom left of the screen.

It will show there with an option for what you want to do with it.

If you click on it you should see this:

"Open " will open just that file.

"Show in Folder" will give you the location of the file - usually "Downloads"

Thanks Rustys and KenB for coming back to my post. I usually go to their home site. That way I avoid the add-on's.

Its as if W10 avoids allowing Brave or DuckDuckGo being downloaded.

I have chosen download as the folder to accept programs off the 'net but obviously I am not down-loading. I must be doing something wrong.

I think the fact that DDG is unobtainabe at the moment is something to do with it :).

Sorry about that.

recently, I downloaded files form a remote server. The download was complete but I couldn't find the files. I though download never happened so I downloaded again. It turns out that the download folder was changed and instead of download folder files were downloading on another drive.

I wonder if Jim was ever able to figure this out. I use Windows 11 and I use Brave just fine. I only used Duckduckgo once, but it should work fine too. Though one thing I have noticed with Windows 11, things like to save to my Onedrive folders instead of on my local computer which is annoying.

To get Brave browser and DuckDuckGo on your laptop, you have to download and install Brave from its website. Look for it in your Start menu and right click it before pinning to the task bar or desktop. Then, set DuckDuckGo as your default search engine in Brave settings.
